    Anfield cat!

Anfield cat identified as a local stray called 'Kenny'

The world famous Anfield cat may have found a home after a former Liverpool steward came forward claiming he was a local stray called Kenny.

Local Liverpool resident Darren Eden claims the pitch invader is the wayward offspring of his own pet cat Pako, to whom he bares a striking resemblance.

'My son was watching the match in the pub and he text me saying that our Pako’s baby was on the pitch,' revealed the Reds fan.

Mr Eden has named the cat 'Kenny' in honour of current Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish.

Mr Eden regularly puts out bowls of milk for the black and white tabby who shot to fame after running onto the hallowed turf at Anfield during Liverpool's Premier League stalemate with high flyers Tottenham on Wednesday evening.

However another resident knows the cat by the name Socks, claiming he's a stray regularly seen outside the famous Anfield stadium.

'There ain’t much to say about Socks. He is a cat who has been around Anfield for a while now,' said resident Terry Riley.

'The poor thing is such a friendly cat and deserves a good home.'

Since making his debut on Merseyside the Anfield cat has become a global internet sensation and now has over 40,000 followers on Twitter under the pseudonym @AnfieldCat.

After hitting the headlines around the globe and taking over Twitter the cat has now been released back into the neighbourhood by Liverpool who believe it belongs to a local resident.

Couldn't agree more. Sneaky ******* cats. No one would pick it up incase it tore the face off them!

I'm so excited. And I just cant hide it. I'm about to loose control and I think I like it.

Definitely: They contribute much more to the game as well.

"That's how I found myself on the Kop that day I had my blue-and-white scarf safely tucked away inside my coat as I listened to Liverpool songs and swayed with the masses.

Then City scored and I screeched and this big bloke, a Liverpool supporter, made towards me and I thought he was going to throttle me. But he just pulled my scarf from under my coat so it lay on the outside, and said: "You should always be proud of your colours, lad."
