But seriously, the team should toss up how much money they would make of these tours vs home preparation. Possible extra tiredness/poorer preparation vs being in peak condition for the start, a slow start (and being out of the major competitions by November) vs having an actual challenge.

I understand they need to do these tours for commercial purposes but surely they'd make more money if we had a winning team. The casual fan is more interested in following the team that wins and then you've got them locked in. Look at all of these new Chelsea and City fans.
    We come not to play.

Not ALL the players warrant that kind of money. We could afford to pay one or two outstanding players that kind of money and build our team around, with more solid players assisting them. Bar Suarez, there's no one like that in our squad and Suarez will surely be lured by big offers at some point, so how are we going to compete with that?
      Are we winning?

You may have a point ... its probally case of beng structured to do that ... I beleive we pay average players more, have more on our books and perhaps are not competitive on the higher end ... that said ...look at Barca .. its not all about money

Agree with Nigel, this conservative style doing it on the cheap is not going to lead us to winning anything significant any time soon.
If we had a fantastic youth setup or an excellent scouting network this may be different, we have neither.

our youth set up is pretty decent, we have a number of players that are well rated - Sterling, Suso, Connor Coady, Adam Morgan Toni Silva and Jordan Ibe to name a few choice names.

But how many will actually get in to the first team? The link between the first team and the youth/reserve team seems to be very poor.

All top sides go on pre -season tours, what are the examples of a side not going on one, and hence being better prepared/conditioned, and then having a great season, a better one than the clubs that did go on pre season tours, not many i'd wager.

All we are doing is preparing the players in a different country, and in superb facilities, they are working hard apparently, so i see no big problem.

its not much different than anyother club tbh, we've seen the emergence of Kelly and players like Sterling are right on the cusp of a break through.

Actually, I sold my spare seats to a man from San Diego who was taking his son to Boston for the match, so...

This. I live in NYC and we have matches from Roma, Milan, Real Madrid, Spurs, Chelsea here in the next few weeks. Villa are in the USA, United in South Africa and headed to Asia, etc. The stature of Liverpool football club demands that we compete as a global brand and this is what we want, I would think. The only reason LFC are not playing in NYC I assume is that we're owned by the Boston group; that rivalry runs deep.

We should be greatful LFC are able to go on a global preseason tour. After all we could be like the bitters and only have our annual tour of wales to look forward too as a result of good old Bill finiding a timeshare.

Whether it is good or bad from a pre season preparation point of view, it is essential if we want to expand our global brand. I will be surprised if Warrior and Standard Chartered agreed to the sponsorship deal without the promise of a few pre season tours.

I can see us going to one more US tour in a couple of years focusing on the midwest and the west coast.

As someone earlier pointed out never take the global fanbase for granted. This is a great opportunity for global fans and their family to reconnect with Liverpool.

OUr pre-season games are always sold out with great atmosphere when compared to Chelsea, City, etc. This will be a fantastic opportunity for FSG for marketing. Of course until the last 3 years we did not have a marketing team competent enough to exploit this. But now I think we will see a marked difference.
