should have posted this in here not the match thread...
I really didn't think we would struggle so badly, but we did exactly what we did against Birmingham in 2001 - and that kickstarted a very successful phase. Unfortunately I think we are at about the same level as we were back then and nowhere near the peak we reached under Rafa (if he'd bought one good striker that Jan when we sold Keane, we'd have won the league that year and he'd still be in charge - we might still have G&H as well though)... hopefully we'll see a boost in confidence, some more investment and quality signings and get back up there.

I felt pretty confident we would win this until they scored their 2nd - at that point, all our missed chances started to stack up in my mind and I started to think that maybe it just wasn't meant to be. Fair play to Cardiff though, they absolutely played out of their skins to keep themselves in it - their fans can be very proud even though that probably won't mean a lot to them right now.
Whilst we didn't put in an amazing performance ourselves, hopefully this can prove to be a similar catalyst for success as it was for Houllier all those years ago.
Onwards and upwards.
EDIT - Anyone who can come away from that feeling dejected needs to stop watching footballLast edited by rudedog; 26-02-12, 09:40 PM.

Fantastic pics and clips Mos
. Can't hide the fact that I was very underwhelmed by the penalty shootout - just felt like an awful anticlimax after club legend Dirk should have been the man with the winning goal. Stoll though **** it - penalties are mostly bottle and only 2 of our guys bottled ours compared to 3 of theirs

Delighted for Kuyt! Amazed but delighted to see Downing actually taking responsibility and really going for it. Skrtel has been transformed into something unrecognisable - all the ****in hasty madness seems to have left his defensive game and he also bangs em in for fun
This will be a great experience for the players. They clearly felt the weight of expectation and the pressure really got to them when we took the lead - terrible falling back and noone with to grab a hold of the game and drive them back when it mattered but still **** it. You live and learn.
I feel really sorry for Henderson who had an appaling game. I like him a lot. He has a great engine, plays some really neat passes and quickly too and moves into attacking spaces really well but he shouldn't be played on the right. And yet a****ingain we suffer SG at CM. There is no good reason in my head why Suarez can't play on the right with Gerrard down the middle which is where Gerrard categorically has to play QED. Hopefully this will all settle down after the summer.
Andy Carroll though...very not LFC. Pointed out by lots of people during the game - his movement is the worst of anyone on the team. He never gets in front of his marker. Ever. It has to drive the likes of SG, Downing, Bellamy, Johnson (basically anyone who puts the ball into the box) nuts.
**** it though - lets win the other cup

I really understand Dan7's stance. I too feel a little deflated, depressed and embarrassed at the nature of this victory and I'd be lying if I said otherwise. That said, do we really think Cardiff's defenders defended like that in last week's heavy defeat at Ipswich in the C'ship? Did they ****! They were magnificent today and deserve credit. It can't be easy playing against 11 men who are at the biggest game/occasion of their entire career. You see these types of performances from lower/non league opposition in the domestic cups yearin year out. We won. That's all that really matters. This really ain't the time for bickering amongst ourselves about our mediocrity. Next Saturday at about 2.50 will be here soon enough.
I have one word to offer - honesty. I couldn't be devious if I tried. Joe Fagan.
