what. so you'd be happy to trade in a car worth 50k, pay an extra 50k on top of that, and get a car in return worth 55k?

Whichever way you look at it, we gave Newcastle £35m for Andy Carroll. It might be of some small comfort to John Henry that the transfer was funded from generated profit rather than from additional capital injection from him, but Newcaste have our £35M and we have their player.

And what? If it's been a dud deal (too early to judge IMO) then that's life - what do we do, cry about it? No, we just have to move on and do the best we can to improve.

And they're above us in the league

we have to recognize where we've been at fault and try to do better. got a lot of maybes in the squad right now, and i hope they all become yesses. but at this time next year, i'd hope we have more yesses in the squad even if all our maybe turn into nos.

ok that's not very clear, but read carefully

we'll have a significant outlay in the market next summer, i'm certain of it. it would be nice if we spent it on players that can come straight into the team and win us lots more games. that's all anybody wants.

I'm sure they'll want to take 'less risks' this time around. The owners I mean. Winning a trophy or two would give them a bit of breathing space but next year we've got to at least challenge for the league.

Funny thing about it is that the general consensus is that we've played very good stuff this season, created loads of chances, but just havent converted nearly enough of them. Therefore, if we simply tweak the team by buying a goalscorer, we should do much better.

And Villa have our £20m for Downing and Sunderland have our £17m for Henderson. That's over £70M spent and their value based on what their performances....a third of that maybe? What we do is ensure that we do not repeat the same mistakes.

Our end's net is dissected. The oppositions end is still in top nick condition and we can save money there.

Ok, so if we all agree that we need to not repeat mistakes, can we all dry our eyes now?

I don't recall ever shedding any tears over football, not even tears of joy. It is only a game, there is more to life. That's why I only have 400-odd posts in however many years
