I think they expected to see working progress that unfortunately backfired as many of their top signings are playing way below their potential (regardless of their actual abilities).

Imo the plan was to have pretty much established nucleus of the squad by this summer and then bring few quality players next year to give us that extra edge and take us closer to really challenge for top trophies.

It's clearly not working out as planned but imo regardless of the mistakes that they made in transfer market Lucas injury, Luis' suspension and Stevie's ongoing health problems really compounded the issues and really exposed our team vulnerabilities and weaknesses.

At least we're less reliant on Gerrard now. We've played the bulk of our games without him.
      Are we winning?

And becoming more reliant on Suarez or Bellamy off the bench to create something.

We're awful. That's the bottom line. Awful signings have killed progress. fsg have big decisions to make in the summer

I think it's hard to argue with any of that.

edit - hang on, the post I'd replied to has now been heavily edited and gone from a fairly long, detailed post to a one liner. Granted we're not very good and the signings have been abysmal, but I was endorsing a somewhat different post to the one which is displayed now.

              Carroll 35M - Downing 20M - Adam - 7M - Henderson 16M

That's 78M spunked on thorough mediocrity . None of them have stepped and made game winning contributions. Gross financial mismanagement on a colossal scale.

A sackable offense it has to be said. Cup runs are great, anyone can do it on any given year. the league is the true barometer. I'd give Daglish his cards in the summer personally. Cluelsess is an understatement. Even Cardiff nearly done us. 78M i still can't comprehend how that was spent. Shocking

Adam's not a terrible buy for £7m, not at all.

Shouldn't be a starter though, squad player at best.

Personally I think clueless is an overexaggeration, and the Cardiff point is silly. We nearly got done by West Ham in 2006. And Birmingham in 2001. Cup finals are something different. As for clueless, we just haven't been that bad this year, despite the results not coming overall. What is true is that those signings haven't made much of a contribution at all, however I can see what we were trying to achieve with them. Its just not worked as a whole. Plus the fees were far too big, but is that Kenny's fault or Comolli's?

Our outlay has been huge. However the amount we got in has also been huge. I remember years of people beating Rafa with this stick, it was unfair then and it is unfair now. Total spend is much less relevant than net spend, to me anyway, and in net terms we actually haven't spent that much when the period of chronic underinvestment before hand is considered. We still haven't improved to the tone of £35m either, but bandying about much larger figures which fail to take into account the money in, and the sheer amount of work that we did need to do on the squad at the point Kenny took over, seems a little hyperbolic to me.
I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
                      Mine angry and defrauded young?

For me we're maybe half way through a rebuilding process.
Net spend is the ONLY way to calculate how much money has been spent, with the transfer windows now clubs buy in bulk then work to fit together rather than adding bit by bit.
I just hope and pray that we add some pace and creativity in the summer, i dont think we've got a prayer of signing Hazard or Martinez or well known names like them but surely Comolli's role is to identify these type of players a year or 2 before they become household names.

That an an extra year or so will also mean Sterling will be ready and i have really high hopes for him, he goes either way of both feet so is very, very difficult to tie down
The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

Half way through a rebuild. I'd hate to see the finished product if his terrible signings are anything to go by.

This is FSG's first season as owners, for those of you who haven't watched the 10 year anniversary video take a look. FSG just reek of success, in Baseball, Nascar etc, they are only just learning the EPL and have discussed a 3 year plan.

From their prospective they outlined at the beginning their criterea for success, top 4 finish and good cup runs, well where are we?

One cup in the bag, quarters in FA, qualified for Europe and mathematically still capable of 4th.

Kenny and Steve have made mistakes undeniably, the players for what ever reason lack desire and basic strategy. Im sure they know that and are working to correct it.

From FSG's point of view, they will wait untill the end of the season and review.

They have tasted success and will want that to continue, from the recent H&G appeal, it's obvious they bought the club cheaply and have only net spent £35m, peanuts in comparison to the rest of their sporting empire.

They will spend and change in the summer have no doubt, they will also treat Kenny with respect whatever the outcome, staying on or moving upstairs or Kenny resigning.

With all due respect Dalglish should be let nowhere near an lfc wallet in the summer. I simply don't trust him to make adequate enough signings of the required standard to make us contenders for the top4. Can't see it. Should be given his cards at the season end with respect and dignity.
