I don't think it's a case of not getting excited I think it's a case of how long the glory lasts afterwards. I think that with us the reality of the league situation hit home immediately meaning alot of people forgot very quickly about the cup, as that competition is now over, while the league is still ongoing.

It may be a cliche, but I guess you tend to focus on the next game rather than the last

I'm getting pissed. I suggest you all do the same.
      Are we winning?

FFS ****ing Newcastle spent less what we paid for Downing alone to get Ba, Papa Cisse, Cabaye and Tiote and every single one of them would walk into our team..

Couldnt disagree more about Tiote and Lucas. Lucas is miles better. And i stand by my point, Cisse has been here 5 minutes and it proves nothing thus far. You criticised us for signing Carroll based on 6 months, yet you're putting Cisse in our side based on less than 6 games.

          Oh - and i'd play 442 or 4411.

The 2000/01 cup runs, and 2006 FA Cup were underpinned by real progress in the league and challenging on all fronts.

We can't even challenge for 4th nowadays, so progression is not happening and my celebrations are tempered by it.

Can't help it, this season has been one set of disappointments after the other.
the fa cup is fairly exciting and in a season where we've held our own would be a great addition to what we've been doing, but essentially the cups are proof we can win games occasionally rather than consistantly, and if you think about our opposition it's not as if we've faced juventus, mourinho's chelsea and ac milan to get where we're going. we have beaten this year's chelsea in a cup which is ok, and we've beaten the mancs which is terrific, and while you can only beat what's in front of you, a pair of cup runs where we've beaten lower league competition, mancs, and stoke isn't really all that inspiring. it's better than nothing, and it's trophies, but in the middle of a season where we're floundering badly, the ability to win a small number of games against mostly inferior opposition isn't much comfort.

It'd be a good season, and it'd be successful in terms of what the club exists for.

I'd still have massive doubts over team development and progression. If I was the owner, I'd be scratching my head about what to do, and that's the first time I've felt that way this season.

Cup success for me doesn't necessarily mean the team has progressed leaps and bounds i.e. 2005. That squad needed ripping up. And I believe this one needs another operation.

I find it hilarious how some of the people who hated Rafa's performances in the league used to overlook his success in Europe, now are trying to justify our performance on the whole of this season based on the performance of insignificant domestic cups.

Champions League and the league are the only 2 which should matter for a club of Liverpool's stature. FA Cup, League Cup, Europa league is a bonus and shouldn't hinder our capacity to perform in the more important fronts. I thought that the spending in the summer was to ensure we had the quality and depth to compete for 4th spot and in the 2 domestic cups. We all said at the start of the season that 4th was the priority and to be honest we're nowhere near that. I fail to see how winning the Carling Cup will change that. People on here are talking like we've won the FA Cup, but until it's in the bag, it's just another distraction. We weren't jealous of Birmingham winning it last season and nor should we.

Maybe for him, that wasn't the case for me though, I was happy to have finally won a trophy, but the reality of the league situation hit a week later.

Surely what stands out on a manager's CV and a club's honours list, is titles/trophies won, rather than win %?

It's easy to go off the boil when you've got nothing to fight for in the league and you've got an eye on the cup. I that that's part explanation of what happened to us this season.

If Kenny gets 6 years like Rafa did and isnt doing the business, then he's no room for being cut slack.

I said that Lucas and Tiote are very similar in quality and if you disagree that is fine. I seem them that way and don't think you would see huge difference in quality if either of them would play.

In terms of critising Carroll I didn't critize him in that post but our decision to acquire him after only half of the season at the highest level and we paid a fortune for him as he is either already established world class striker or one with the world potential and he is neither.

That siad, I will say that Carroll has many, many holes in his game and is not good fit for us, which you cannot say for Cisse, who may be playing short time in PL but I have seen him play many times in Bundesliga and imo he is better and more complete player than Andy and would be much better fit.

Excellent summary and pretty much exactly the way I feel about the cup runs.

To some extent Kenny can rescue the season if we win the FA Cup.

Depressed and worried about players, tactics, and formations but chopping and changing managers rarely works.
