Henderson, Carroll & Adam I could all understand those signings on some level

Regarding the recent signs of improvements, that's obviously a positive, but I've been thinking about what Danny Murphy said last season about us playing without pressure. And I think you could argue that in hindsight he had a point (we all slaughtered him at the time).

We need to be decisive. We can't take the Babel attitude with all the players who have let us down this season. Every season we fail to make the top 4, we're falling further and further behind. These players aren't *that* young. I think a season is a fair period to judge them, and if we had decent offers come in, the only 3 players I'd be gutted to see leave (who've come in under Dalglish) are Suarez, Bellamy and Enrique.
Carroll & Henderson are what 21 or 22

I think thats young enough, quite a few players dont develop until they are older than this

        Take Crouch as an example

The only player I wouldnt be bothered about leaving is Downing

The rest I'm prepared to give them time

History suggests that a fair number of players are better in the second season. Again it comes down to patience. At the end of the day its my view, I could easily be wrong and they'll be **** again!
I hope you're right mate! I've found that I've gotten more and more sceptical over the years though.

Most players, you know straight away if they're good enough or not. Torres, Mascherano, Alonso, Garcia, Suarez, Reina, Agger (all of whome came from abroad and required less bedding in time than more established premiership players like Henderson, Adam and Downing).

Of course, there's always an exception to the rule - Lucas. But I'd feel far more comfortable if our signings were in the first bracket I described!

And as you said yourself, not addressing any of the blatent flaws in the squad during January was a huge error in judgement.

I agree with your point, but Carroll's 23 and will be 24 in January. I didn't realise until it was pointed out the other day.

Yeah, I can see the logic in that. But if we were to be offered our money back for either player would you take it? I would. I don't think we should do an Aquilani and let them go for a pittance, but I wouldn't be too upset if they were to leave.

Downing has to go though. He can't fall back on age as an excuse. And although I think Adam is a reasonable squad player his game annoys the **** out of me, I think we could improve here as well.

"Carroll's will be 24 in January."

We're in April Shagger. Carroll has basically just turned 23. "Will be 24 in January" - that's ****ing ages away man!

Thing is with signings with the best will in the world even the most prolific of managers when it comes to signings will make bad signings for every 5 players brought in 1 or 2 of them wont work, especially when you are looking for top 4 standard.

For me Downing is a decent signing, who we knowningly paid over the odds for, not much but over the odds anyway, he is having a bad season in a indifferent team. He has had some good games but has not delivered like we would have liked him to, that said he has been played mostly out of position and I am not sure he clicked with Enrique or visa versa ... Happy to have him at the club

to be fair I fail to see how anyone could play with enrique. the more he plays, the worse he gets. the fact he is as dense as **** becomes more & more obvious. He has had some solid games and started well, but his bombing up & down the pitch hides a multitude of sins for me. he constantly plays the man and not the ball and always trys to shepherd it out. plus he dallies on the ball like no other.

Probably being harsher than necessary. But he does piss me off watching him at times.

these players were signed to be premiership and 1st team ready for THIS year, while the youngsters were added to and started coming through the ranks.
they have NOT been 1st team ready. irrespective of their age, or the prices paid, this transfer year, overall, has been an epic failure in terms of how these guys have contributed to the team this year.

and yet we could finish the season with two trophies and have a good league campaign next season.

oh and why are we making the new boys scapegoats? you could argue the likes of reina, carra, gerrard, kuyt or suarez haven't been consistantly good enough either.

If your counting Carroll as a new boy technically Suarez is too Bob.

true but carroll only played about 30 minutes last season for us!

                                re: Downing

I slated him earlier but e is improving with every game. His crossing in particular has vastly improved of late. Im happy to give him time now, he's also put in two great cup performances against Cardiff and Everton. If we took our chances infront of goal then we would have been applauding Downing.

That cross he put onto Carrolls head in the 47th minute was brilliant. Were not finishing the chances he creates
