Hazard is the hype and the buzz name coming out of the European market just now. How many people on this thread, or on this forum, have actually watched him play 10 games to make an adequate judgement as to whether he'd be suitable for us? (Not that out judgement means anything of course)

I'd suggest that it would be a very, very small number.

That said Downing is ****ing ****e and we shouldnt have touched him imo

Easily the worst purchase made by Kenny imo
My understanding is he is on about the same wages as Downing

Decisions on players will more often than not be made when you have all the figures in front of you

If the total financial package is above your parameters then its a no go

Personally I dont think Mata & Aguero where ever options on this basis and neither will Hazard imo
Mata I am not sure we were ever really interested especially if there is any truth in that story about Kenny wanting Downing instead but Aguero definitely as we would never get into bidding war with Cityh.

In terms of Hazard I do agree I don't think we have slightest chance.

Mata's reported wages is between 65k and 80k. Not a whole lot more, maybe less then Downing.

The simple fact with Mata vs. Downing when Fee, wages and length of contract are the same was we prefered one over the other. I wish people would stop going on about it.

Even if this is true and I frankly I dont believe it is Mata's fee was significantly more than that we paid for Downing

Its reportedly minimum £23 million plus add ons rising to £29 million they paid for him

That still doesnt escape from the fact that Downing is shocking and the money should have been spent elsewhere

Its just the Mata comparisons I dispute

To me the comparisons are ****ing pointless and it dilutes the argument imo

We shouldnt have bought Downing and the money would have been better spent elsewhere

Unfortunately that elsewhere doesnt include options like Juan Mata or Eden Hazard

We should be looking to see how best to move forward.

frankly, mata could be on 3 times the wages downing is on and double the transfer fee. chelsea still would have the better deal...

If you cant afford it you cant afford it

Irrespective of how good the deal is affordability will be the key

Based on our transfers I'd say we could afford it.. Mata is world class so we'd have no problem paying him 80-100k, surely?

Carroll is on 80k I know this for an absolute FACT

Even if Mata cost £9m more than Downing, I doubt that would have been the key factor, the key factor must have been Camolli/Kenny wanted Downing and seemingly didn't consider Mata.

I don't think any of us truly know how viable a target Mata was. But if he was within reach and we opted for Downing then that is fairly damning evidence of Dalglish's poor judgement in the transfer market.

As I said, all we can do is speculate, but hopefully the owners will know the score.

Lecter, the reports say the transfer fee is 23.5 million. Why would the add ons not be announced? If you're right, that's pretty unusual isn't it? You also seem to be speculating on Downing and Mata's wages as though what you're saying is fact. Is it fact, or are you guessing? It's quite hard to tell sometimes.
