That picture above isn't taken in direct line - if it was the crossbar would be level with the touchline at the top. So the camara must be at a slight angle to the line. And as the camara is at a slight angle, the closest thing to the ball that we CAN judge it against is the crossbar, which its slightly level with.

Its so debatable though - the ref / linesman needs to have no doubt to be able to give it, and in this case there way too much doubt to be sure.

But if it hasn't cleared the bar then it won't have cleared the goal line. Hard to say really as there is an angle on that pic.

        Gutted.

At 2-0 I was furious with how we lacked any fight.

At 2-1 my anger turned to sadness as we ran out of ideas.

So nearly 'The Carroll Final' and quite the difference he made. Trying to look at it objectively and putting aside the pain, Chelsea scored a goal from three individual errors which all happened in one sequence and got the rub of the green squeezing one through Skrtel's legs. Did Chelsea deserve to win it? No. Did we? Only on the last 30 minutes.

Downing and Enrique were shocking, which meant our whole left hand side was shocking and Henderson tried to raise his game but the occassion got to him, yet he refused to hide. However, central midfield is not an area of the pitch where we can let that happen and the fact we carried Spearing too, meant we left ourselves with too much to do.

Carroll deserves credit today; I think the Everton chance played on his mind (the one he powered down and wide) and went for power and more central, unfortunately Cech reacted well and got the luck with the woodwork. But the way he put himself about and caused a mischief is what I expected when we signed him, hopefully he can carry this on to next season.

        It hurts.

Thought it was in, but it didn't count. So what?

You realise that the whole of the ball has to be over the whole of the line right? If you do realise that then I suggest you may have misheard your guide dog.

Chelsea didn't play that well, I can only really remember them having a couple of good chances, both of which they scored from, had we not made the mistakes to gift them the first goal, it was the type of game that had a 0-0 stalemate written all over it.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

If the camera was perfectly in line with both the near and far corner flags, then the posts and crossbars would also have been in perfect alignment. The fact that the far end of the crossbar is over the line means that the camera is a little in front of the line on the near side, giving the advantage of perspective to the goalkeeper.

Where's Andy Gray and his virtual camera thingy.

                        Could put this to bed...

What i'm most pissed about, is i think we could have won that today.
                            Ohhh Kenny.

edit: Also what worries me more, is that sides like Chavski, ****eh, Scum and Arsenal will leave us in their wake, all are nicely placed to do so, while we still flounder looking for answers to the same old problems.

                              Most probably.

I just think Chelsea scored two lucky goals and created little else. If Carroll's *goal* had been given, I don't have any doubt that we would have gone on to win it, as Chelsea had offered little else, but defend resolutely apart from the usual Fat Frank speculative-big-I-am effort.
