Downing should be nowhere near a Liverpool best XI. FFS.

And in all honesty such has been the shocking form of Jose Enrique since the new year, I am not sure he is good enough either.

For the current crop of players, that is the best system to have.

However, I hope we move back to a 4-2-3-1 system next season with Gerrard playing that advanced role, providing a link between midfield and attack and able to provide quick support for the main forward.

Suarez in the wider channels is an absolute must. Time and again for Ajax and Uruguay, he has fulfilled that role well. He is a creative spark and Glen Johnson's ability to hold the right width well, it is two jigsaw pieces waiting to be put together.

We need a creative midfielder able to relay the passes and control the play from deep alongside Lucas, a direct winger on the left for Downing and a forward able to link play up top and score a variety of goals. We need to press higher up the pitch and have pace and intelligence in the side, all of which are severely lacking.

We need an identity out on the pitch, a system we can all adhere to. It seems that the Academy players at the moment will move from a 4-2-3-1 predominant system into a 4-4-2 or a 4-5-1. It seems to be a bit disjointed and for the whole club to be fluid, there has to be an agreement and stick to it on the most part.

One thing I didnt understand is that at times we looked like we were pressing high up with pitch and oter times we backed off and let them play. Either press or play deeper but using both confuses players and our tactical set up.

Backing off them and not pressing as much is a Steve Clarke from the Jose Mourinho era. There was an article a while back about that, relating to the conservation of energy. However, we've looked incredibly sluggish fitness wise and it hasn't helped us in attack.

Unless you are one of the best teams in the world, you should be playing the high pressing game. Only teams like Real Madrid, Man Utd, Man City and Barcelona can afford to sit back due to the quality of their team set-up.

I agree that suarez should play wide but left instead of right. He can cut in and shoot or run at defenders.

Enrique is a big problem though. His passing and all round movement of the ball is really poor. His body is in the wrong position when he receives the ball and he should be taking it on the half turn but hes always square to the pass. really these sorts of things should be worked on in training.

This was the type of system I think that Downing was brought in to play, as I said it would probably be a toss-up between between Downing and Bellamy, but as Bellamy can't play regularly I expect Downing would would play more games hence why I included him. I was thinking of this team in the context of next season if we weren't to sign anyone I imagine Maxi won't be here and Bellamy would be playing less and less.

Id like to see Aurelio have a go at breaking back into the team, probably wont get the chance but I think he's better than Enrique

I almost dropped Enrique for Kelly and switched Johnson to right back the only reason I didn't is because Johnson is better on the right and we need an attacking threat on that side and Suarez would often drift in from the right. I would have put Aurelio ahead of him (Enrique) if there was a change of him being able to play 2 games back to back.

It feels like quite a few players are in the side by default
