We'll be a different proposition with Lucas in the team.

I like Lucas a lot but I don't agree with that. Lucas is a defensive type player & thats not where we struggled last saeson imo We didn't score enough goals to make the top four.Originally posted by my left foot View PostI'd go as far as saying that we'd of made top four had the stayed fit because we basically played without a midfield after he was out, such was the drop off in quality.Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

Because most of the players with any attacking intent had half an eye on the defensive side due to Lucas' absence. Adams being a case in point.Originally posted by SB View PostI like Lucas a lot but I don't agree with that. That sounds more like what the players themselves who failed to score or provide assists would say. Don't think that would stand for Carroll & Downing though.Originally posted by foresterbloke View PostBecause most of the players with any attacking intent had half an eye on the defensive side due to Lucas' absence. Come off it. Lucas gave the team a platform to go and attack. We badly missed his distribution too, which is nothing fancy but it's quick and to feet almost all the time.Originally posted by SB View PostI like Lucas a lot but I don't agree with that. It's the most position on the pitch, and when you lose your best central midfielder and have nothing in reserve of course the whole team suffers. We had the worst, most brain dead central midfield in the league in his absence. It obviously made a huge difference.Last edited by my left foot; 05-07-12, 12:02 PM.

The real watershed last season was losing Lucas. Once he went, we were pathetically weak in central midfield, and short when the fullbacks tried to get forward - they had no cover.
Spearing was a sorry excuse as a stand in, and not gettign an adequate replacement was Kenny's biggest error.

Not saying we'd have definitely got fourth place, but we'd have been in with a much better shout with Lucas in the team.

This I agree with. Saying we " would "have got 4th with Lucas is unfounded. We would have performed better, granted, closer to 4th spot definitely but who knows for sure. He may have dipped in form etc etc etc.Originally posted by Lee View Post

I hope he comes back better than ever & no repercussions.
