I wouldn't go as far as to say Shelvey is class or that he is the new Gerrard, he has such a long way to go. But he has improved and IMO could be good squad option this season. In saying that i do see the thinking behind a loan move to get him regular football, as he is not going to be a starter for this season a full season on loan at a premier league club could bring him on even more.

Theres no harm in bringing in joe allen but shelvey will still play 30 games if he stays. When a player shows such quick development he must be given game time.Originally posted by TheElephantMan View PostShelvey has improved dramatically during the last 12 months. He looks like he could command a regular first team spot now, maybe in the longer term he's the natural successor to Gerrard?! I don't know, but he does have vision and he's very imposing. He does remind me of a young Gerrard.[B]Sir Isaac Newton knew the universal law of karma - any action has its equal and opposite reaction.[B]

I think Aquilani has been neat and tidy. Played a couple of superb balls. Still think he has what it takes to thrive in this system. I think we'll come up against a fair amount of teams who will be happy to surrender possession against us, and a creative player like him will be worth his weight in gold then.
Shelvey has looked class. You can see where the Gerrard comparisons come from. He's got a rangey style, and he definitely looks to have goals in his game. Also very impressed with McCloughlan, who has looked really composed in possession. Looks like another promising right back to compete with Kelly (who could maybe be groomed for Center back now?).
After the stick Cole got after the last game, I think it's worth giving him a shout. He's looked very sharp to be fair to him. Superb control, and Shelvey apart, has probably looked our best player.
Except can't see Kelly being a CB.

I agree. I'm not expecting much this season, but we have a small group of quality young players who could become great players for us in the future. Shelvey, Henderson and hopefully Allen if we sign him are ready. Shelvey deserves a run, I'd persist with Henderson too. I think Allen would walk straight into our first team. We should be developing a strong youthful team and that seems to be what we're doing.
