I'm not quite sure it's going to be wingers we need.

I think our left side will look like Enrique, Allen, Suarez; we'll be reliant on Enqrique providing the width, Allen dropping over to cover and Suarez being the option. I think we'll have width in spades next season, just maybe not the pace.

I'm not sure about Rodgers' system if it means all the outfield players are going to be running in the same direction like the under-11s.

Is it just me, or are we crying out for genuine pace out wide?

In every team Rodgers has been at previously he's has pacy wide men and for me, I think for us to be successful with him, this is exactly what we need.

I'm not sure Sterling is ready for first team football, but we looked much better when he played and this I think is because his pace offers an outlet. Without this, teams can push up against us, making the midfield congested and difficult to find space in.

What does everyone else think? I guess it'd be less of a problem if we had a striker with electric pace.

No it's not just you. Lots of people seem to have an obsession with wingers.

I would say a fair proportion of those who would like Rafa back were 'crying out' for wingers when he was here too.

I really don't understand the obsession with it, apart from the fact it looks quite pretty.

That said, I have no idea if Rodgers played with real wingers last season in a 4 3 3 as I did not watch them.

On football manager I play 4-3-3 with three centre forwards that drop back to the wings that defend, we should totally do that.

In real life, if Rodgers has bought Borini for wide left that could suggest we are bringing another striker in, unless he's playing Luis up top?

Im not overly concerned with the wole "winger" role (look how well its worked out for us with downing) given that wingers tend to throw crosses in that need a centre forward to attack them. in carroll we have this but i dont see rodgers wanting to play this way.

instead, i just want to see genuine pace out wide. whether borini has this (i havent seen enough of him to say either way) or suarez can add a quicker first 5 yards to his pace, i would still like to see a walcott or scott sinclair (not necessarily these exact players but players like these who can stay wide and have pace but are comfortable enough to play more centrally) come into the side.

My first inclination was toward having him as the central forward too, but I don't think it's the worst thing in the world that one of the two beside the CF looks to play others in ahead of go solo. For me it's a question of how well he can do that more than how suitable that type of player is for the role.

None of us really know where Borini will play. I've read that he'll play wide left, wide right, and Barrett most recently said he was going to be played through the middle. Rodgers has said that he can play anywhere across the front line. So can Suarez. If we brought in another wide player who has similar versatility then those players could possibly rotate throughout a game. Would certainly make life difficult for opposition defenders anyway.

I definitely think we're crying out for a pacey wide man though. If we sign Allen, I really hope we go all out to bring in the best wide player we can possibly afford.

Borini didn't score a single goal after March. Most of his goals last season came from January onwards I heard. Doesn't fill me with much confidence
