Liverpool schoolboy Sean Highdale is tonight hoping to become the latest player from the Academy to gain international recognition
The Halewood-born central midfielder is currently away with England under-16s preparing for the Victory Shield contest against Northern Ireland in Ballymena.
His first international call is a just reward for the fine form he's shown for the Reds under-16 side at the Kirkby-based youth complex this season.
Academy coach Dave Shannon said: "We are all delighted. It is a great opportunity. If he stays level headed and he continues to work hard it will be a good experience for him," said Shannon.
Highdale is excited at the prospect of representing the country and has thanked all the coaches at the Academy for the help they've given him.
"The call took me completely by surprise. I am sure that I will be nervous before the game," added the 15-year old college student. "I joined the party in Coventry on Sunday for two days training and from there we flew to Northern Ireland. It really is very exciting and I am made up.
"I want to thank my mum and dad for bringing me training to Kirkby all these years. Also, I owe a lot to all the Academy coaches, especially my current under-16 team manager Dave Shannon, and Academy director Steve Heighway for all the help they have given me.
"I think the reason I got selected was because of my tackling and passing. I am working hard to improve my pace and goalscoring."
Tonight's game is live on Sky Sports (kick-off 7.45pm).
