By alternative I meant a first team player. Neither of them really are at the moment. Although I can see Sterling used in games in place of him. Which really excites me.

I agree - and there is motivation for him to perform with the new player and Sterling's prominence pre-season. Remember last season - that run in the first game - smack against the bar - then downhill from there. An early goal this season would help him tremendously.
