    Defending Set Pieces

I am generally interested to see how we cope with it this season. We have been heavily linked with players who are under 6 foot. If Sahin comes in and pressuming he starts, our midfield 3 and the 2 attacking players (with the exception of Gerrard presuming he takes Downing's position) will be full of short arses.

Please don't come at me with the Barca jibe. I hear that. They cope with it well in Spain. It's just that set pieces play a massive part in English football and I do wonder whether we will struggle in that department.

I guess we'll know more once we've played Stoke on a Tuesday evening.

    When raining, obv.

potential problem with the height I guess, does BR play a man or zonal marking system?

Yup, it's zonal. Or at least, going from our early games.

Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Enrique, Gerrard ... Henderson if he plays. Lucas at a push, Downing to make up numbers.

We do lack a bit of tenacity in the air.

How were Swansea in terms of height?

Probably the smallest side in the Premier League I think.

I'd hazard a guess that we might have a higher FK:concede ratio due to the size aspect, but since Plan A is 'don't give away the ball in the first place' we should see a significant drop in free kicks conceded.

The the end result may be less or a similar level of goals conceded from them - but I don't think we'll see more.

It'll probably get picked up on though and become the new zonal marking stick to beat us with but I don't think that means the overall system would be failing.
                Hello mert.

                  I'm in favour.
                  .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

If we have the ball 80% of the time, the opponent aren't going to get many corners are they?
