Shame that. Well I guess the plus side is it almost guarantees Sterling some game time.

This is not an easy tie as Hearts will be up for it so I reckon it will be a draw.
        My team would be

        Reina
        Enrique-Agger-Carragher-Johnson
        Allen-Lucas-Gerrard
        Sterling-Suarez-Borini
Any reason to leave out Skrtel? I want the back 4 + midfield to have a few games together. I know Agger will miss a game through suspension but he'd clearly be in the first choice XI.

I'd actually start with Downing too. Sterling to come off the bench, perhaps with Carroll.

I dislike his fat face and runaway gob. I don't much care for his 150 page manual either.

But I do want him to succeed and if he does that I will eventually learn to love him.

Another stupid rule is that if LFC & Heerenveen both qualify for the group stages he becomes ineligible for the rest of the tournament!

                Just made me chuckle

Although wasn't it a 180 page tikka taka massala manual?

I'm kind of 'meh' about him too at the moment - hopefully the Tubby One will grow into the role & on me

Not sure with injuries but I would like to see -

                  Reina,
Kelly Coates Agger Enrique (or Robinson if not fit)
                  Henderson Allen Shelvey
                  Borini Suarez Sterling

If all goes well you take Allen, Borini and Suarez after an hour or so.

I like that team, apart from I'd have Skrtel at the back instead of Coates.

I also think that midfield might blossom without Gerrard knocking about.

We got to give Coates some playing time and playing against Hearts is the good game for him.

In addition, Seb would be my choice to partner Skrtel on Sunday so 90 minutes with Skrteal vs Hearts would help them both to gain better understanding between each others.

yep. coates needs time, and along side the guy he will probably play with against city can only be a good thing.

I'd go with a strong team, we need to develop understanding in key areas and that only happens by playing games together.

There is, however, a good case for trying to get players like Coates and Sterling integrated into that system as we will need more than just a first XI over the season. I've always thought though that impact players like Sterling are more peripheral to the style of play and so can be incorporated fairly well through sub appearances.

Jose Enrique injured as Liverpool FC boss Brendan Rodgers rings changes for Hearts in Europa League

JOSE ENRIQUE has been ruled out of Liverpool FC’s trip to Hearts with a knee injury as boss Brendan Rodgers prepares to ring the changes for tomorrow night’s Europa League clash at Tynecastle.

The Spanish left-back still hasn’t recovered from the knock he picked up in training prior to last weekend’s opening Premier League game at West Brom and will remain at Melwood to receive treatment.

Skipper Steven Gerrard, Luis Suarez, Martin Skrtel and Glen Johnson will also stay behind when the squad travel north of the border today.

That quartet will be rested to ensure they are firing on all cylinders for this Sunday’s league showdown with champions Manchester City at Anfield.

The absence of Suarez is likely to mean a first start of the season for Andy Carroll. The £35million frontman’s future remains uncertain but with no suitable offer on the table ahead of next week’s transfer deadline Rodgers intends to utilise his talents.

Newcastle insist they won’t increase their bid of £12million for Carroll but Liverpool have no intention of doing business with them at that price.

Daniel Agger, who is suspended for the visit of City, is set to start against Hearts, while Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam, Jay Spearing and Jonjo Shelvey will also come into contention.

However, there will be no Reds debut for Morocco winger Oussama Assaidi who completed his move to Anfield from Heerenveen last week.

The 24-year-old trained with the squad at Melwood yesterday but is cup tied having played for the Dutch club in the qualifying round. Assaidi will be available to play for Liverpool in Europe from the group stage onwards.

Rodgers remains hopeful of making another couple of additions to his squad before the transfer window shuts but Manchester City winger Adam Johnson won’t be one of them.

Liverpool have distanced themselves from reports linking them with a swoop for the England international and reports they are ready to match City’s £10million asking price are wide of the mark.

The Reds are pressing on with other targets but they have given up hope of landing either Real Madrid’s Nuri Sahin or Barcelona’s Cristian Tello on season-long loans.

Sahin has chosen Arsenal ahead of Liverpool due to the lure of Champions League football, while Tello is no longer available having forced his way into Tito Vilanova’s plans at the Nou Camp.
