Most of their recent successes have been French or African players which you would expect Comolli to be an expert in so maybe it really was Kenny who insisted on buying British?
Didn't Comolli buy a shed load of British players for Tottenham?
    We come not to play.

Loads of Brits and, to be fair , loads of foreigners too.

If you look at some of the fees paid for British players, there's a bit of a trend.

          Alan ****in Hutton - £10m
Bent - £17m (I know he's since gone for more but IMO it was an inflated fee at the time)
          Bentley - £14m
          Woodgate - £9m

I think we had more than our fill of French and African players under Ged but Newcastle seem to keep unearthing good 'uns very cheaply.

I think the fact he paid £4m for Rasiak £7m for Mido and £5m for Rocha tells us all we need to know.

To be fair to Comolli, Modric and Bale didn't turn out too badly and Spurs also sold Berbatov for a huge profit.

He's a fraud isn't he, Comolli? A chancer. Wasn't it Wenger who said the same? Took the credit for signings (eg Clichy) he apparently really ought not to have done?

True, but IMO Modric and Bale hardly required great scouting. They were much coveted players both in the game and on forums/among fans. The more I look at his record the more I think he's a blagger.

"I let you write what you want about Comolli," Wenger said in November 2010, with scarcely concealed disgust. "He was a scout here and not a director of football. He worked under Steve Rowley [the chief scout]. That is it. Only one person decides who comes in here and that is me. Nobody else."

he certainly got a few right. But then there's Bentley for 16m as his most expensive outlay. Seems to have a brain fart every now and then and blows his biggest sums on crap English players.

A lot of the players he signed that are considered "decent" that he signed, (Gomes, Akotto, Bale) took a lot of coaching to get to a decent level, all three where ****ing dire at first.
