Why do you want to stay in this competition? Means nothing, last season proves it.

Continuing in this competition is the wrong move IMO. Our paper thin squad needs to concentrate on the league and secondly Europe.

I agree it's a weak team, but I would prioritise the Europa League over the League Cup. However, I understand it's each to their own.

A cup is a cup. We won more silverware last year than Arsenal and manure. That gave Brendo additional breathing space this season.

But I'd like to stay in it to try out more youngsters - not necessarily to win it. Just need to get the dastardly West Brom out of the way first.

How long is Borini supposed to be out for? We must use this match to test Morgan, Yesil and Ngoo, we have no more senior strikers left

It’s just a couple of weeks, but the position is there for someone to lose if they come in and do well. I like Borini, but he has hardly set the world alight so far, so if one of our other youngsters make a decent impact then I don’t think he should go straight back in to the team.

I wouldn’t mind seeing someone make a claim for the central spot and push Suarez out wide, but personally I think we might see Suso out wide for while Assaidi finds his feet.

I think there has to be some experience in the team. Which probably means that Downing, Carragher and Enrique have to start. After that Henderson and Sahin could do with a game and deserved a place from the Young Boys game. In terms of the later criteria so does Wisdom. Beyond that you can make a case for several options. Certainly a young forward needs to play IMO.

Pacheco isn't anywhere near good enough and we're likely to get £1-2 mill for him from a Spanish side.
Downing isn't anywhere near good enough but we *could* get £8 million for him from another mid table premier league side.

Plus Downing is on much higher wages, basically play him, hope to god he does ok and get rid in January.

Do you really think his performance for us will impact his value? Teams have seen him play for years now. We need to think about our team to a/ win the game and b/ progress players we want to play.

I might well start Downing (I think he is a better player than many others on here do) but I'm unconvinced of the 'shop window' logic.
