If that is the lineup then it's pretty attacking huh? Wonder what sort of team WBA will put out.

      That's a really exciting lineup.

Bring in Suso for Downing and it's even better.

With Jonjo out due to suspension it is very possible he'll get his first PL start vs Norwich on the weekend.

I wonder how Yesil will do as he may start tomorrow and on the weekend again if he proves himself.

              [quoteTuesday, 25 September 2012 22:04 Darren Phillips
Brendan Rodgers will juggle his resources for the visit to West Bromwich Albion, which presents the opening hurdle in Liverpool's defence of the Capital One Cup.

Changes were always expected to be made from the side which faced Manchester United on Sunday but injury will ensure Martin Kelly, Daniel Agger and Fabio Borini are unavailable.

Jamie Carragher will be drafted into the defence. Potentially alongside Sebastian Coates.

The team is likely to bear some resemblance to that which beat Young Boys Thursday last.

Left-back may prove an intruiging selection decision. Jose Enrique has not been the first choice, with Glen Johnson switched from the opposite flank. But with the latter set to revert to the right hand side of defence as a result of Kelly's long term injury Enrique could be regarded the first choice replacement.

Stewart Downing will also be considered having been fielded in that reserved role in the Europa League.

Lucas Leiva is out with Joe Cole still struggling to regain full fitness.

Jonjo Shelvey is suspended following the red card received against Manchester United.

Pepe Reina is expected to gain a midweek rest giving Brad Jones a turn between the sticks. Others from the starting line-up against the Red Devils will also be given the evening off, or held on the bench.

That policy could give the Liverpool XI a youthful look.

Jones accepts that he may only get the handful of chances cup games offer this term, and while the Australian may hope to be considered a dependable alternative choice as well as an able deputy; he rejects claims that Reina has lost the air of invincibility which has seen him categorised as one of the best Premier League stoppers.

"Pepe's consistency is massive and a lot about being a goalkeeper at Liverpool is concentration because you aren't getting peppered every week," he said.

"You have got to look at it in context. Goalkeeping can turn on one decision at any given time. Sometimes you make the wrong decision but get away with it. Other times someone moves. It doesn't matter who you are, you are going to be criticised over the odd mistake over the course of a season.

"You look at the top teams and every goalkeeper has made a mistake. For people to jump on the bandwagon and start criticising someone who has been at the top of his game, been in the top tier of football, for so long, is wrong. Pepe's still only 30. You can't start dismissing people and say: 'That's it.' He's a brilliant keeper and I don't think there is any reason to start questioning him now."

Steve Clarke will not expect the Baggies to remain in the Champions League qualification spot his team's early season form - which includes an opening day home win against Liverpool - has brought them.

Though with Premiership survival a priority the former Anfield coach will also be contemplating changes.

Shane Long could be in for a return.

James Morrison is a doubt having picked up a hamstring problem against Reading. Steven Reid and Goran Popov may also face late calls on their participation.

Peter Odemwingie will watch from the side lines for disciplinary reasons. Jerome Thomas is certain to miss out

As many as nine players could be absent for the Baggies meaning Markus Rosenberg and Yassine El Ghanassy could get a run out alongside some promising young players.

Romelu Lukaku, on-loan from Chelsea, can feature.

West Bromwich Albion from: Foster, Myhill, Jones, Jara-Reyes, Dawson, Tamas, Hurst, Olsson, McAuley, Ridgewell, Thorne, El Ghanassy, Allan, Dorrans, Yacob, Mulumbu, Morrison, Brunt, Gera, Fortune, Long, Rosenberg, Lukaku, Berahino

Liverpool from: Jones, Wisdom, Carragher, Coates, Wilson, Enrique, Shelvey, Sahin, Henderson, Downing, Yesil, Morgan, Gulacsi, Robinson, Coady, Suso, Sterling, Pacheco, Assaidi, Johnson, Skrtel, Allen, Gerrard, Suarez, Sterling

              Referee: Michael Oliver

              Kick-off is at 8pm

It is isn't it? I'm looking forward to it.

Nah, we need to save Suso for the first team (can't believe I'm saying that ). Downing will do for this one.

If that is the lineup, then it would suggest Henderson and Sahin playing more of a holding role in midfield (esp. Hend), with Pacheco playing ahead of them. Felt sorry for him against the YMCA as he's really not a centre forward and he struggled to get involved. At least in this position he'd see plenty of the ball and have an opportunity to show what he can do.

Is Yesil good enough to play upfront on his own?

Jerome Sinclair could become Liverpool FC's youngest player in Reds' Capital One Cup tie at West Brom

JEROME SINCLAIR could become the youngest player in Liverpool’s history tonight after being promoted to the first team squad for the Capital One Cup tie at West Brom.

The highly-rated striker, who only celebrated his 16th birthday last Thursday, will travel with the Reds to the Hawthorns.

Boss Brendan Rodgers is considering naming Sinclair among his substitutes and if he comes on he will beat the record currently held by Jack Robinson, who made his debut at the age of 16 and 250 days against Hull City in May 2010.

Ironically, Sinclair started his career at the West Brom Academy before Liverpool swooped to secure his services in the summer of 2011. He has impressed for the under-18s so far this season and shone in last week’s NextGen Series clash with Inter Milan.

Teenage defender Stephen Sama has also been elevated to the squad for tonight’s trip to the Midlands as Rodgers prepares to field a youthful line-up.

Jose Enrique has been ruled out with a niggling knee injury, joining Lucas Leiva, Daniel Agger, Martin Kelly, Fabio Borini and Jon Flanagan on the casualty list.

Jonjo Shelvey starts a three-match ban following his red card against Manchester United and Joe Cole isn’t yet ready for action having only started training again last week after a hamstring strain.

With only a dozen senior players fit and available, Rodgers will not risk his star names tonight.

Steven Gerrard, Luis Suarez, Martin Skrtel, Glen Johnson, Pepe Reina and Joe Allen will all be rested ahead of Saturday’s league clash at Norwich City.

Youngsters Suso and Andre Wisdom, who made their first team bows away to Young Boys in the Europa League last week, are set to feature again tonight.

There will also be a debut for 18-year-old German striker Samed Yesil, who was an unused substitute in Switzerland.

In the absence of Gerrard, Jamie Carragher will captain the side with Brad Jones deputising for Reina in goal. Nuri Sahin, Stewart Downing, Jordan Henderson and Oussama Assaidi should also start.

Agger and Borini will continue to undergo treatment at Melwood but both are making good progress following the injuries they sustained against United. Danish centre-back Agger, who bruised the bone in his left knee, could be back for Saturday’s game at Norwich.

Borini is suffering from a swollen ankle but there is no fracture and he may also return to training before the end of the week.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’
