I kinda expected to concede, but three was sloppy.

Borini put in a shift and made some great runs, but for all his industry, our attacking dynamic kicked up a gear when Suarez came on. Henderson, Allen and Shelvey had great games and I thought Coates and Robinson were superb. I also doff my cap in Downing's direction.

Anyhoo, my defeat gloom lasted all of five minutes as I expected nothing from the Europa League and the positives clearly outweigh the negatives, despite the obvious concerns.

Nice to see another freekick go in direct with none of this shifting it to Gerrard for him to **** it at the defenders feet. Odd to see Johnson have a difficult game back on his natural side and concerned to see some tactical naivety in a tough European fixture.

Yeah, Downing gets me down at the best of times, but credit where it's due this is for me probably his best performance for Liverpool. I still want him sold, mind. But I've got no complaints about what he did today. One can't expect any attacking player to consistently put in very accurate balls or/and shots not even the best of them do it 100% of the time.

1 assist and another one Suarez maybe should have scored, it was a great spot. Why not single out Assaidi who did neither? or Sterling? or Borini?

He got an assist, he laid one on a plate for Suarez to head in. Had he scored that he would have got 2 assists. He looked like part of the team tonight, not just a headless chicken.

No one was saying he was great. None of our players were. Every single Liverpool player made wrong decisions tonight. Why pick out downings above others? The one problem on the right is when he takes the fullback on as its on his weaker side. That's not his fault. He still put two ****ing good crosses in with his right mind.

I think it is. Joe Allen is not a defensive presence, he's getting worn down in that role and teams are cutting through us like butter in the middle.

Even when we beat West Brom, we still managed to concede two goals. That's a worry, everyone is scoring for fun against us.

That's what I mean, Lucas played that game and we had the exact same problem. We leave about 30 yards too much space between the back 4 and CM regardless of who we play IMO. If we altered it and kept someone a bit closer then yeah I agree Lucas would make a massive difference but as it is we'll keep struggling until something changes positionally.

Downing probably had the most consistent 90 mins of everyone. Solid without being spectacular throughout. Worked really hard showed some fight, and put a few good balls in.

MotM is really tricky.

Surprised at the level of negativity. Great first half, some very good football. Yep Downing was even half decent. As said previously, Allen under par and I'm really not sure about Borini at this stage, I'm not sure what he offers us except the odd bit of "hard work".

Coates had another good performance but no idea what he was doing for that OG!

Looking good except for that ten minutes or so. Need to press on when we have that level of control and possession.

I think that is a huge problem, we need to not just look to go out wide all the time.

Didn'y say he was awful, did I? Just saying he wasn't as great as people are making him out to be. It's not about the assist or the other ball to Suarez, as a team on the counter you've got to make intelligent passes and make a decision to pass it quickly. He doesn't do that a lot of times and misses key passes to players in better possession thereby allowing the defenders to get back into their positions quickly.

As for him not being able to beat his man on the right side, it is his fault entirely. He does not have the ability to cut inside and shoot and he doesn't have the ability to knock it past the defender and cross.

Felt a bit sorry for Henderson when he was given the hook - thought he did well, in fact Gerrard was piss poor and the midfield didn't function as well after that change.
