Don't get me wrong, I like the direction we are going and the style of football, but I have asked myself recently if it was necessary to take such backwards steps to go forwards (if that makes sense). I honestly think if we had brought slightly wiser and better in the summer we could be pushing for that CL spot already.

If we'd have, somehow, kept Kuyt, Carroll and Maxi/Bellamy and adjusted the formation to our strengths we'd be in a better position, I'm sure of that.

We are desperate to put some points on the board.

Is it 12 points from a possible 33. it was always going to be a tough start but its turned out to be tougher than I was expecting.

I don't think anybody predicted this poor start especially as we played 6 games at home and only picked up 6 points in those games.

I think 15 points from our next 8 league games is very realistic. Say 4 wins, 3 draws and a random loss. That would give us 27 points after 19 games, not good but not utterly terrible either all things considered, on course for a 55 point season with players to come in in Jan to make us stronger and hopefully improve that points tally in the second half.

It may be realistic but we have been very inconsistent so far and I am afraid that trend may continue.

To think I was mocked at the start of the season on here for saying we'd miss Maxi, Kuyt & Bellamy... All 3 were massive losses and I'm still confused as to why we made no attempt to replace 2 of the 3, accepting that Borrini was a replacement for Kuyt... Though he has a whole lot of improving to do to get anywhere near Dirk's level.

For some reason we gutted the squad of the few players who did chip in with goals in an already goal shy squad... Then didn't bother to replace them.

Hugely frustrating.

We're 6 unbeaten in the league after a tough run of fixtures. It's not outlandish to say we are improving and could get a good points total from that.

To be honest, we've been fortunate as no one has really took advantage and coasted along in 4th.

That said I really think the Swansea game and Spurs game are vital for gaining the confidence to get a good string of wins under our belt. Two difficult games in each their way.
