England captain Steven Gerrard will win his 100th cap on Wednesday after a scan confirmed he suffered no knee ligament damage during Liverpool's Premier League draw with Chelsea on Sunday.
Gerrard suffered a knock late in the 1-1 draw and, after reporting for duty in Manchester on Monday, was sent for a precautionary scan by the Football Association.
The scan revealed there was no damage, meaning Gerrard will lead his country into their friendly against Sweden in Stockholm, where he will become only the sixth Englishman to reach a century of caps.
An FA statement read: "Steven Gerrard has been cleared to travel with the England squad to Sweden having undergone a precautionary scan on Monday afternoon.
"The England captain reported to the team hotel following Liverpool's 1-1 draw with Chelsea and, having received positive news, is set to win his 100th cap against Sweden on Wednesday evening in Stockholm."
Liverpool and England captain Steven Gerrard has been passed fit for the midweek international friendly against Sweden, meaning he will pick up his 100th cap on Wednesday.
Fellow midfielder Jonjo Shelvey though has been ruled out. He travelled to London for the match with Chelsea but wasn’t part of the matchday squad after picking up a slight thigh injury. It is hoped he will be okay for Wigan’s visit to Anfield on Saturday.
Meanwhile, reports on Monday in Denmark suggest defender Daniel Agger has pulled out of their squad with a groin injury and faces a fortnight on the sidelines.
Fellow centre back Martin Skrtel missed the Chelsea match with illness and should be fit for the weekend.
wigan are good this season though - i think they have been going through a purple patch for a good 6 months now, play good football and they will prefer playing the likes of us, Spurs, Arsenal or Newcastle away rather than someone like Stoke, Everton or West Ham.....
That said, it would be terrible to not get 3 points in this game. Suarez will hopefully get a good few chances here and the fact that they will come at us a bit should mean that we get some space to attack and play our football as well.....
To be honest, looking at our next 10 fixtures, we should be looking to make hay here:
Wigan H
Swansea A
Spurs A
Southampton H
West Ham A
Villa H
Fulham H
Stoke A
QPR A
Sunderland H
By Jan 3rd, I'd expect to see us much higher up the table..........24 points or more in the next 8 games and then we are cooking on gas....
