Henderson's energy certainly made a big difference to our pressing. I'd have him in ahead of Sahin or Shelvey for a bit until Lucas is back in a couple of weeks.Originally posted by Lecter View PostCredit must go to Rodgers for that result
The change with Enrique playing in midfield enabled us to press more, compete for more possession and crucially win more second balls. Something I think has been sadly missing during much of Brendans tenure
The introduction of Henderson only re-enforced this as I thought we then got about more than Wigan than we had previously. Irrespective of what I think about Henderson in terms of a player, he has a great engine and shows a fantastic willingness to get about the pitch and put pressure on the ball
More of the same please BrendanCult Member. Nazi puncher.

Thought he brought good energy to the side when he came on and helped with the unglamorous side of the game really well.

I tend to think he would have been/is more useful to us in CM during our transition to a fuller version of Rodgers vision than Sahin for this reason. One of the midfield three has to be selected for their ability to break up play IMO (at least until we have a better understanding of the more holistic approach one might think Rodgers is aiming for).Originally posted by rcasemore View Post

Yep I agree, I think Henderson has had a bit of a raw deal and suffered by association to last season and being one of Kenny's signings that didn't work out as well as hoped.Originally posted by dww View PostI tend to think he would have been/is more useful to us in CM during our transition to a fuller version of Rodgers vision than Sahin for this reason. Henderson hasn't complained, he's got his head down, by all accounts worked really hard in training, turned down a move to Fulham so he isn't looking for the easy way out.
He works non stop for 90 minutes, wins the ball back by applying constant pressure and when he does have it he passes early and simple.
You'd think he was perfect for Rodgers team and system with some development.
I hope he plays on Thursday and I hope he plays that well that he cannot be left out.
Playing Henderson eases the workload from Allen and he will also do a fair amount of Gerrard's running. The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

Agreed
Henderson did a lot of work closing Wigan down early
In possession though he is severely lacking in confidence
Watch how often he receives the ball only to immediately pass it back to the player who passed it to himBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

I very much doubt that. I just don’t think he’s impressed Rodgers enough in training and when he’s been given a chance (albeit mostly out of position) to be given a first team place. Hopefully he does kick on from that though because I do agree that on paper he should suit Rodgers system very well.If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

When did he have a chance to impress? he joined halfway through the USA tour and a bit like with Carroll Rodgers appeared to have made his mind up about Henderson before being in the job 5 minutes.Originally posted by RedReet View PostI very much doubt that. All I'm saying is Carroll doesn't fit the Rodgers system so get him out, that I can get behind and understand, Henderson, on the face of it does suit the system, like Lec says he needs to be more assertive in possession but I think that would come if he was shown the same level of faith as Sahin and Shelvey have been. The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

Training. Like everyone else including Shelvey who Rodgers had planned on sending out on loan before he watched him train. Are you honestly suggesting that the only reason that Rodgers hasn't played him more is because he was signed by Kenny or because he underperformed last year? Are you saying that he deserves to be in the first team, but Rodgers isn't picking him basically out of spite?Originally posted by The Birdman View PostWhen did he have a chance to impress? he joined halfway through the USA tour and a bit like with Carroll Rodgers appeared to have made his mind up about Henderson before being in the job 5 minutes.

Maybe I've picked you up wrong, because that's pretty ridiculous. If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Between the Europa League and League Cup, Henderson must have had at least 6 starts so far this season. That's a pretty fair crack for an out of favour player and the manger can't be expected to persist with every player who is low on confidence or off form. It was great to see Henderson do well against Wigan but its not like he hasn't had his chances to impress before Saturday.Originally posted by The Birdman View PostWhen did he have a chance to impress? he joined halfway through the USA tour and a bit like with Carroll Rodgers appeared to have made his mind up about Henderson before being in the job 5 minutes.
