Don't get me wrong I loved the Rafa era. I just can't be arsed with the needless comparisons with Brendan and Rafa. Its a new era, new management. I'd just prefer we'd keep them separate and don't compare the two. Its gonna happen anyway though innit.Originally posted by Vermilion View PostWe know.
Come on, it's about the one thing even some his detractors can agree on, his record in the Champions league was superb, we were No1 rated for more than one season.
Sure we had the odd few poor performances, but which sides don't.

Great game, wonderful goals all round, dissapointed we did not close that out ... we are a passing team ffs ... we were still going at them with 7 minutes to go .. should have just strangled the game .. disssapointed but decent performance ...Anybody who criticizes Klopp ever is a James Blunt. I understood why Suso came off so early for Henderson at the weekend, and to all intents it worked. I am nowhere near as sure why Wisdom came off for Gerrard and Henderson went to right back. Maybe that's just because Gerrard was poor and Henderson out of position for their first goal, but it seemed very odd to me.I could not dig, I dared not rob:

Did he? Seemed fine with those overlapping runs before he came off and I saw Rodgers having a word with him on the sidelines, seemed like he was explaining the substitution. A niggle would make sense, I just thought after the Suso thing it might have been tactical.I could not dig, I dared not rob:

i dont think its good enough.
yes the group of players arent the best weve had but there's still some very good players in that squad. For rodgers to say that people were apologetic about the players he inherited is just wrong.
You cant say stuff like that and imo its not the players but rather the tactics.[B]Sir Isaac Newton knew the universal law of karma - any action has its equal and opposite reaction.[B]

Gerrard coming on for Wisdom & moving Henderson to right back was the cock up that cost us the win. Should've been Coates on & Carra shifted to right back - then we might be celebrating a 2-0 win instead of a draw.
Also we wouldn't have needed to risk Gerrard & Suarez...
We didn't win cos of the manager - the end. Thanks for the memories Rafa - YNWA!

I'm not convinced that Henderson was really out of position - he was running back and misjudged the last pass but he was in pretty much the right place. The skill by their forward made him look a much worse than he was in that piece of play.Originally posted by MrMichael View PostI understood why Suso came off so early for Henderson at the weekend, and to all intents it worked. I agree i"m not 100% sure why he made the move but I also think in the first half it worked - we started making a lot more clear opportunities after the change. I think it was just too early - we had no options when we needed to close the game out."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

Felt that was a bit classless, something Hodgson would say.
He's made a few verbal mistakes so far, the way he talked about AC for instance, and then backtracking at every turn. Now, imo, he's in a corner with regards his options on AC.
But, he's a young manager, so he'll hopefully get better at it.Last edited by Vermilion; 23-11-12, 10:55 AM.

I think most of people would be reasonably happy for this season to be one of continuous improvement (gradual or otherwise, but demonstrable).Originally posted by el matador View Posti dont think its good enough.

In your opinion, do you think the team is generally improving, stagnating, or receding?
I personally think there has been some demonstrable improvement. There are generally fewer goals conceded, and fewer mistakes leding directly to goals. The unbeaten run we are on is also the best we have had for quite some time, for example.Oh I don't know.

honestly Dom, i think that we should be doing a lot better than we are. We're 20 games into the rodgers era and its enough for the squad to know their roles.Originally posted by dom9 View PostI think most of people would be reasonably happy for this season to be one of continuous improvement (gradual or otherwise, but demonstrable).

Unlike a lot of others i dont think the squad is that far away in terms of quality. We need a couple of forward / attacking players including at least one striker capable of getting goals if suarez is injured.
I just dont think the tactics suit what we've got available. Last night is an example. we had plenty of talent on that pitch but we still got caught out with two counter attacks. Its not something new its been happening all season. We never saw that soft centre that we've got now under rafa who was all for defensive solidity.
If we continue to give teams soft goals then we're in for a tough ride under rodgers. At swansea he didnt have that problem because he's got a set of players with a different midset who came from the championship and who knew they were the underdogs in almost every match. They were content to grind out draws or tight victories because they never took the game to the opposition. Even with two advanced midfielders who tracked back.
Liverpool fc has a team full of internationals who are all top players with a winning mentality which is different to swansea's dont lose at all costs (keep the ball) mentality.
Im not sure those two advanced midfield players have the defensive capabilities that rodgers wants from them. Which leaves us exposed constantly on the counter attack. The first thing we need to do is to stop exposing ourselves down the middle and stop both fullbacks pushing forward at the same time.
Another thing is that the pressing triggers arent being understood by the players. our pressing tactics are absolutely rubbish and non existant. for a manager that builds his part of his footballing philosophy on high pressing, we are spectacularly **** at it.
I really like rodgers because he's a young manager with fresh ideas about football but we need to start getting the basics right first which are defend well, keep compact right down the spine of the team, stop the other team playing infront of our back four and stop leaving ourselves open to the counter attack.[B]Sir Isaac Newton knew the universal law of karma - any action has its equal and opposite reaction.[B]
