We weren't very poor but we gave away stupid goals. We were largely in control bar a period between the end of the second half and 20mins in the second. This team has got charcacter and plenty of it. We deserved the win.

Nope. We were better than West Ham and that's what counts.

That's downright nasty imo, doesn't even make an effort to stop his foot digging in as they hit the deck! ****!

Infact, it almost looks like he gives an extra dig with his studs as they go to ground..

It was a deliberate attempt to hurt Sterling so he would be mentally weak all game. Just the type of 'skill' to be infused into any player under Allardyce.

Good education for Raheem and to his credit he got straight up and on with it.

we did it against Spurs too albeit without getting the reward at the end

I don't think we were that poor today. We controlled the game quite well in the first half I think, had some decent chances and got a good goal from Johnson

An somewhat unfortunate penalty - what can he do with his hands really? But a penalty none the less, and a strange own goal by Gerrard was the goals conceeded, and WH didn't create much else.

Second half we show characther to come back in to the game and score 2 more goals without a striker in the team. I think that's decent enough. We need to be able to take the games where everything isn't going entirely our way, and we did that today. Happy with that.

Thanks to all the teams above us we still have a decent chance at fourth right now, only four points behind. It's still not my expectation that we get it, but I'm delighted we are challenging for it. 4 points of 4 place in mid december is something I would have taken before the season started all things considered.

That's what I thought after seeing the replay, at first viewing I thought it was an accident, but since seeing a replay I think he just sees it as an opportunity to take Sterling out, although he does get the ball I don't think that was the main intention.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Oh come of it mate. It's on the back of a tough tie in Europe and WH were flying after a win against the Chavs.

We've been running on empty fumes for a while now and it's a relieve we've no games in Europe to distract us now.

But by and large, we've dominated games this season, just lacking end product. Even today when you say our midfield was "run over" we still had 60% + possession. Not sure we were that over powered tbh.

What was most impressing and what has been a feature lately is the patience in our game. It allowed us to get the control back from WH as they were on the ascendency in the former stages of the second half. That's our game and what we're good at. We just need to convert more from our chances but what can you ask more from this squad when we've had 15 different scorers this season. Maybe those players should score more frequently but that is a stat which shows we're heading the right way.

Is it a blessing in disguise we're out of the Capital/Carling Cup? At first I was gutted, but thinking about the bigger picture we've already won it and it hasn't meant as much as it should. We certainly don't have a squad, including our reserves, that could have benefitted from any further games and now that distraction is over.
