Steven Gerrard is second only to Everton's Leighton Baines in terms of the most key passes and crosses played by a player in the Barclays Premier League so far this season.

According to Opta's statistics, the skipper has hit 43 key passes and fired 121 crosses into areas for his teammates to attack.

What we lack is another defensive midfielder to play alongside Lucas and someone who can allow Allen (and others) to take a breather when needed.
If Allen had "Xavi" or "Busquets" on the back of his shirt I'd be thinking "my god they've let it slip"

Now with regards to your second point does this mean you want Allen to play as an attacking midfielder??

This is the problem for me with Allen, defensively I dont reckon hes that great and I'm none too convinced hes creative enough to afford playing another holding player

But he has been terrible don't you know? And he should be dropped asap!

What is the saying about form and class? Stevie G. Legend and still our best midfielder by a country mile.

We win as a team and lose as a team. Everyone of the players yesterday deserved praise even if they personally may not have had perfect games.

Through my beer glazed eyes I thought a draw would have been a fair result. But the last 18 months we haven't exactly got what we deserved. Cole, Henderson & Downing all helped assist the team.

not a fan of Cole or Hendo but i agree credit where credit is due, they won us the game. Also credit to Rogers, i thought bringing both on was a mistake but turned out to be great decision, hats off Brendan that's why your on the big bucks and i shop at Lidl!

                  You clearly haven't moved on.

You've been taking pot shots at BR all season because he's FSG's choice of manager, the same FSG who fired your hero because he bombed as manager and set this club back at least a year.
We just came from behind to beat a tough West Ham team without our best player and all you can do is talk about how our midfield under Rafa 7 years ago is better than our current one. How ****ing relevant.

You should take your own advice and move on. Give our new manager a chance, I don't see how that is so difficult.

Things quite tense throughout the football forum today.

If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Will be murder once we duff Villa.

for me the midfield still doesnt look balanced enough.

lucas coming back makes us look more solid but we're not sharp enough in getting the ball back when we lose it. Our pressing still looks fragmented too.

the starting position for lucas is too deep. he's taking the ball on our 18 yard line and then playing it forward but still sitting deeper. When we lose the ball quickly in the middle third we're still well open to the counters because lucas is so deep.

im delighted we won but its not convincing stuff yet. that middle of the pitch still doesnt look right at all.

                          4 points off fourth though.

No matter his current relative inadequacies, he is still Steven Gerrard. The Liddell/Dalglish/Fowler of my era. Sounds a bit stupid and cliche, but I absolutely love him.

Was excellent when he came on against Newcastle last year too.
