Where we lucky in the Swansea and Wigan games too?Originally posted by Nigey View PostMaybe yours have dropped and you haven't noticed it?
I think we've got a slight problem at the moment and I'm judging this by the last two games we've played. We were lucky against Spurs and deserve to lose today. Maybe it's due to tiredness I don't know, but I think we have real issues dealing with runners between our lines due to the way we're organised defensively.

No they don'tOriginally posted by Neil Young View PostDo Europa League winners get into the Champions League now? If so then it makes no difference. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Ok, so if Spurs or Chelsea win it and finish in the top 4 they go to the CL. Then what happens to the EL place? Possibly an extra place in the Premiership or UEFA allocate it elsewhere.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostNo they don't
And if Spurs or Chelsea win it and finish fifth, it might be different. I think it's far more likely they'd qualify for the EL as winners and then where would be an extra place for the Premiership.
Not that it matters as we won't finish sixth at this rate.
.
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

My guess would be that the place goes to the team who finish 6th in the Premiership, but I don't know for sure.Originally posted by Neil Young View PostOk, so if Spurs or Chelsea win it and finish in the top 4 they go to the CL. Well, we were generally on top in those games. When we aren't we are just awful and all our deficiencies are showing. We normally press high up the pitch but leave some gaps behind when we do. It's not done as a team, like we used to do with Rafa (we used to compress the field of play a lot then, which we don't now). Not trying to compare both tactics, but we need a balance which we haven't quite got yet.Originally posted by Mattshark View PostWhere we lucky in the Swansea and Wigan games too?
Teams counter that by bypassing midfield altogether and putting pressure on our centre backs. Midfield is nowhere to be seen when they do this and we don't seem to play the offside trap well at all. We were masters at that 5 years ago. We need that and the ability to press as a team. Are we winning?

Swansea had a weakened side out in preperation for their Cup final, and vs. Wigan Reina had to make a string of quality saves - there is no question we deserved to win that game but the fact that Reina had to be on top form against the mighty Wigan points to the defence being less than water-tight.Originally posted by Mattshark View PostWhere we lucky in the Swansea and Wigan games too?

You'd have thought he had learnt from the Spurs game the other week but he clearly hadn't. I've said before that he can be too clever for his own good. It's not the first time he's shown arrogance and naivity in his line-up and it won't be the last.
I'm fuming about today's result because I still had the belief that we could nick fourth but silly mistakes like this will continue to bite us in the arse if we don't fix up.
