Ride for the 96 2013 - Attention cyclists and anyone wanting to support

    Hello all.

Some of you may remember that last year I raised nearly £5000 for the Hillsborough Family Support Group (HFSG) and the Hillsborough Justice Campaign (HJC) by riding my bike from Norwich to Sheffield to Liverpool, in memory of the 96 fans who lost their lives in the Hillsborough disaster.

Since the ride I received many emails and phone calls from people wishing to be involved in the ride in future years, so for 2013 I have worked with British Cycling to organise a 96km ride, open to all.

The event is called Ride for the 96 and takes place on Sunday 28th April 2013 starting and finishing in St. Helens and heading north into Lancs and around the top of Ormskirk.

For this year, again 100% of monies raised are being allocated to charities, including Alder Hey Childrens Charity, the 23 Foundation and the Steven Gerrard Foundation.

Full details of the ride can be found on the official website:

Ride For The 96 | In memory of the fans who never returned

with news via the twitter page http://www.twitter.com/rideforthe96 and the Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/rideforthe96

The ride is limited to 300 places and they're filling up fast, so if you'd like to take part then please register as soon as possible.

Alternatively if you'd like to support the riders, then you can donate/sponsor at http://www.virginmoneygiving.com/team/rideforthe96

Hope to see some of you on the day!

    Cheers,

    Ben

          A few words I wrote.....

          September the Twelfth

          September the twelfth 2012
The day the world heard that the panel had delved
In to thousands of files so the truth could be told
To a trusting public left shocked and cold
But what was revealed had long been known
By ninety six families who had lost their own
By the many survivors who witnessed the crush
And by every Liverpool fan tarred with a brush
“It was all your fault, you killed your own!”
Just one of the lies finally shown
Orchestrated cover ups and a web of deceit
Designed to divert blame away from the feet
Of those who chose to take the cowardly way out
And manipulated the media to cast public doubt
For those 96 people that took their last breath
A coroners verdict of accidental death
An arbitrary 3:15 cut off with no just grounds
To ensure that the guilty would never be found
‘The Truth’ was the headline for disgusting allegations
The truth is they lied that’s the damning condemnation
Eight thousand five hundred and fifty one days passed by
Since the fifteenth of April Nineteen eighty nine
Finally exposed all the dirty foul tricks
Intended to prevent JUSTICE FOR THE 96

Thats realy good. I read it in the voice of that poet from that recent LFC documentary.

                  Hello all

Just wanted to provide an update on the 2013 Ride for the 96.

Fundraising is now complete, and I'm happy to be able to announce that a total of £17,000 was raised, which has been distributed as below:

                  Alder Hey Charity: £8,500
                  23 Foundation: £4,250
                  SGF: £4,250

Thanks to all the riders, and anyone who supported the event.

Planning for the 2014 ride is now underway!
