They are usually quite negative about us in general (maybe because we were a powerhouse when they played for LFC & both were fantastic players) but IMO i can't really say honestly at the minute that we have progressed. End of the season will be a better indication.Originally posted by marksared View PostThey also agreed that we have not progressed since last season.
Rogers forced the passing game on us, our defenders and keeper struggled with it, second half of the season we seemed to have abandoned this pass to death tactic and go more direct approach which IMO has benefitted Gerrard's game & the rest of the team. The defence still looks a shamble though.
He 100% will be our manager next season. But he needs to get the transfer spot on. And should have no excuses next season. Looks like we aren't going to qualify for even the Europa League.. never mind some people delusion of 4th place. A cup win, beaten finalists in FA Cup & qualifying for Europe doesn't really seem too be now. A transitional season, but some clear signs of progress have to be seen come the end of the season.
Let's hope that we can finish the season off strongly & look an enticing prospect for potential transfers. My worry is that City & United are so far ahead of us already. Chelsea will spend massively during the summer too & if Arsenal & Spurs qualify for the Champs league..... they will be able to attract world class players (Being in London seems to be a draw too). We don't want that gap to widen too far, sure at the moment Everton look so much stronger than us although IMO they'll lose Baines & Fellaini in the summer.
This summer IMO is one of the most crucial transfer windows ever for LFC.

I actually agree with quite a lot of that, Daniel-san. For me, those changes you've pointed to make it difficult to assess how we're developing. It appears to have evolved in a bit of a disjointed fashion from the outside, which makes me wonder to what extent we're implementing long term ideas versus temporary makeshift ones. I don't think I'll be any clearer on that until we see how things change when there's been time and/or resources to rework the defence.Like blood on iron

Many managers out there could probably make us playing like we do now.

Even good managers take time to get it right, not under one season.Originally posted by Arn View Post

Can you honestly say that you know how Rodgers want us to play more than he want to keep the ball on the ground.Originally posted by Mattshark View PostEven good managers take time to get it right, not under one season.
So much of our attacks is based on the skill of Suarez, Coutinho and Gerrard and not because of any tactic.
Give the ball to them and hope they can create something. That seems to be our tactic.
No clear tactic of how to win the ball back or how to build up attacks.Stop the cyberhate

What do Barca rely on or Madrid or United or most poignantly Liverpool, with Gerrard and Torres! Football is about skill and tactics its a balance of the two hence you try and bring in the best players you can get.
Youu have no idea what the instructions and tactics that are given in the dressing room, and actually we're very creative probably the most I've seen in years (hence the number of goals we've scored) and we have still managed 13 clean sheets in the league, obviously ignore these facts as it doesn't suit your point.
We drew yesterday 0-0 and yet it seems we're not good enough etcLast edited by RichC; 14-04-13, 08:54 AM.

So our attack is reliant on a third of our team ... how truly shocking.Originally posted by Arn View PostCan you honestly say that you know how Rodgers want us to play more than he want to keep the ball on the ground.

I do however, think it's a little more complicated than getting the ball to them as quickly as possible and crossing your fingers. Our movement yesterday from the midfield - as well as our attackers - was superb, we were causing problems against a team that had set up to defend - we were finding space when you think we shouldn't and that was down to our tactics.
If you want to try and take every opportunity to have a go at Rodgers, perhaps you need to focus on a particular problem where there is actually an issue, instead of making generic, sweeping statements about a team function that is *actually* working.

You seem to have missed the key point and that is what tactic we have to get the ball back as soon as possible.Originally posted by Muddled View PostSo our attack is reliant on a third of our team ... how truly shocking.

Our pressing game is far from being good enough.
So what tactic do we have to get the ball back?
We are also very open to quick counter attacks. Reina made a few very good saves yesterday. The balance between the defensive and attacking play is still far from being good enough.
Barcelona was mentioned. The key point in their game isn't the attacking play, it is to win the ball back as quick as possible.
They have the balance right, they have a very compact team. We don't.Stop the cyberhate
