It won't happen overnight but it could be done much quicker. You would have to ask the question if it was right to build up the attack before the defense.

Make us more difficult to beat thanks to a good defensive system.

Progress the defense before the attack.

The defence though was perceived as the stronger part of the team previously and a lack of goals/threat was what was costing us games hence he went to improve on the striking side of things first.

Tbh whichever why he'd have gone he'd have been blamed for not doing the other

But that was another system. You need different type of defenders playing the Rodgers system compared to the Kenny one.

Even I know that so surely Rodgers must have known about it. He is after all lightyears better manager than me.

We needed different types of players all over the pitch for what Rodgers wants to do. You can't expect everything to be solved within a single season.

We don't have the money to do it all at once, you choose an area and work on it, we've scored more goals than in the past 20 years at this point in the season!

He chose to strengthen the attack first which IMO was a good choice as if you looked at the defence he had Enrique, Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Carra, Kelly & Wisdom to choose from which was far stronger in depth than our attacking options, this summer he will undoubtedly work on the defence.

It's really not hard to understand is it, you seem to be trying to find an argument to beat Rodgers with tbh

Especially when he has come out in public and said on more than one occasion that his first priority was to strengthen the attack and the defence would be addressed in the summer. That's how he has chosen to go about it bearing in mind the funds he knows he will get and how we will operate in the transfer windows.

Rodgers inherited an unbalanced squad, which you'd expect having gone through the ownership crisis and two managers in two years. There were too many on big wages that they didn't deserve, and too many others that were under-performing regardless of wages. He also had a remit to change the style of play to one more pleasing on the eye.

So we had a massive clear-out, to the extent that we had to rely on totally untried youngsters to pad out the squad. He was then given a fair amount to spend, but not enough to solve all the problems in the squad. He focused on the attack, which is fair enough given our problems scoring goals last season, and has a reasonable transfer record (Coutinho and Sturridge great, Allen jury's out, Borini looking poor at the moment) So we've pulverised the wage bill, changed to a more entertaining style of play, and have more or less sorted the attacking side of the squad. I'd say that represents solid progress for this season, under the terms of Rodgers' appointment. To do all that whilst maintaining our league position and hopefully even improving it a little on last year is decent work. Not outstanding, but decent.

He now needs to sort out the defence and make a serious challenge for fourth place next year, as I'm sure that will be FSG's minimum expectation for next season now that he's been here a while and has had a chance to mould the squad (not to mention the amount they've given him to spend and will continue to give him).
