Our pressing game is far from being good enough.

So what tactic do we have to get the ball back?

We are also very open to quick counter attacks. Reina made a few very good saves yesterday. The balance between the defensive and attacking play is still far from being good enough.

Barcelona was mentioned. The key point in their game isn't the attacking play, it is to win the ball back as quick as possible.

They have the balance right, they have a very compact team. We don't.
No, you said 'no clear tactic to build attacks' which is clearly false.

If you had said we were susceptible to counter-attacks then you would - and you do have - a point. The pressing of the ball that was discussed at Rodgers' appointment doesn't seem to have been implemented, but that may be down to personnel issues and if anything, shows Rodgers' reaction to a situation and shows he is not as tactically naïve as you make him out to be.

We surrender a tremendous amount of space behind the full-backs and we don't seem to have got the hang of defending a ball put into the box with height and accuracy. Having said that, individual mistakes have cost us this season and if we can eradicate them from our game, we will see a marked improvement in the points tally.

All this will come with time, experience and training, whilst us fans show a little patience. I think it's fair to say that if we're talking about it, then they'll be on with it in Melwood.

Youu have no idea what the instructions and tactics that are given in the dressing room, and actually we're very creative probably the most I've seen in years (hence the number of goals we've scored) and we have still managed 13 clean sheets in the league, obviously ignore these facts as it doesn't suit your point.

We drew yesterday 0-0 and yet it seems we're not good enough etc
Second best in the league, 1 behind Man City.

        People conveniently over look this.

We've started from so far behind the likes of Utd, City, Chelsea, Arsenal Spurs and down to continuity Everton.

Even next season it's going to be so hard to break into the top 4, that should be our aspiration but by no means is it going to be a sure thing.

I've seen us play under Houllier and, worse, Bronto, where we had a basic attacking strategy and nonexistent tactics, and how we play now is nothing like then.
          .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

Progress is earning more points than the season before. You improve on that season on season you'll eventually win the league. How many points are we off Manu right now?

That's assuming all progress is linear, though. Which it isn't, is it?

This is a good article on our defensive pattern and tactics - more van gaal's Ajax than guardiola's barca.

If we get more points than last season then we would have improved. Simple as that really.

Barcelona play like they do because they had Van Gaal and Cruyff as managers that started the Barcelona dutch total football tactic. Would explain why we are linked with a few players from the dutch league.

Step by step and we are on step one.

That's not the only (questionable) assumption in their argument either but there you go.

15 clean sheets, like its a massive, but we get a clean sheet and cannot score in many games. the goals scored is better than last year, but maybe cos of several 3 or 4 goal games.

Last season under Dalglish, won league cup, lost FA Cup final, finished 8th in league Qualified for Euro league cup

This season Under Rodgers, No where near a cup, currently 7th in league and with 5 games left unlikely to improve position unless a meltdown happens, no qualification for euro football.

I'm not sure this is real progress. My optimism is waning but I live in hope.
