I think Rodgers did well today. Stifled them well for most of the game and there's no accounting for a player handling the ball in the area, and even the mix up for the first. We had good/better chances and the sub was very effective. It's not as simple as saying Sturridge should have started and we'd have played like we did in the second half all game.

So the standard, accepted punishment for biting is a yellow card? Cool, Luis will be fine then, second yellow and a one game ban...or more likely 3 for a red card offence and serious foul play.

Brendan Rodgers admitted his disappointment that football was not the main topic of discussion following Liverpool's 2-2 with Chelsea - but insisted that he would not make any rash judgements about Luis Suarez's altercation with Branislav Ivanovic.

Suarez claimed a point for Liverpool with a header six minutes into injury-time after earlier goals from Oscar, Eden Hazard and Daniel Sturridge.

It was the Uruguay international's 30th goal of the season - but the post-match press conference was dominated by questions over Suarez's coming together with Ivanovic.

"I'll go away and review it and then comment later," said Rodgers.

"I'll make an honest appraisal on it and comment afterwards. It's not for me to make any rash comments or predictions now.

"This is a club with incredible values and ethics here. We'll review it as a club, because there's certainly no one bigger than this football club, a player or manager.

"As football managers and staff and players, we're representing this club, off the field and in particular on the field.

"But it's not the time to comment on it now."

He added: "I'll always speak openly and honestly about the players and protect them when I can, but with all due respect I'll make an honest appraisal of it [first].

"I'll always defend people if I think they're right - if I think they're wrong I'll tell them, and that's already happened with Luis this year. And then we move on from it. If that's what the case is, they've got to accept the consequences accordingly.

"It's disappointing that we're not talking about the football, because the character and personality we showed in the game was absolutely fantastic."

The game had been hyped due to Rafael Benitez's return to Anfield, and it had looked as though Chelsea would claim the points until Suarez's late intervention.

Rodgers added: "He didn't have his best game, but what he does is he keeps going, keeps working, and he got the important second goal for us.

"I thought in the first half we were too slow. We played with three midfield players to control and move the ball quickly but we didn't pass it well enough, we gave it away too cheaply.

"Even though we had one or two opportunities I didn't think we were at our best in the first half. I said to the players at half-time that we needed to be more aggressive in our game and show what we've showed a lot of the season.

"Second half, we were outstanding - we got a couple of goals and should have scored some more, maybe. Petr Cech made some wonderful saves."

Defoe had a yellow - but he is English - and it was seen by the ref.

S***** is South American, a vilain - and will have 2x his ban from last season and a fine of wages from all those weeks.

... but what if it is noted in the ref.report and there evaluated as not worth a yellow ;-)

Putting aside the Suarez incident, I thought we were terrible in the first half, although Chelsea were no better, they just took advantage of our poor defending. We were much better in the second half, whatever Rodgers said at half time certainly worked, and we could have been leading within minutes of the restart. I'm not sure what Suarez was thinking when he conceded the penalty, but we then went through a period where we felt sorry for ourselves, before coming back right at the end, we certainly deserved at least a point based on the way the game went.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Bit naughty from Sturridge there late in the second half, could have walked given what cards were handed out for this week.

Still hilarious that we played on of course.

He might get a TV award up out of this yet.

Think it's sickening that no one seems to be concerned with Ivanovic's condition at this stage.
