My biggest problem is the my Internet is ****.Originally posted by dom9 View PostDepends what you're after.
If better means spending a fortune, then I might disagree. If you want to watch it in HD and don't mind paying through the nose, or going to the pub every time, then that's fine too.
I currently pay for sport, but I am seriously thinking about stopping that now and watching it on streams instead. The foreign langauage comentary doesn't impact me at all becuse I usually tend to turn the sound off even when we're on Sky / ESPN / ITV / BBC / C5.

So, just to be clear, you'd rather the club cancelled lucrative pre-season tours on the off chance we'll get a place in Europe through the Fair Play league. Yes?Originally posted by Robbie-9-Fowler View Post
I will be fuming if we reject the chance to play in Europe. Who the **** does he think he is? Doesn't do well enough to qualify and would then be willing to turn down a free spot! I love those late night games at Anfield and its a cup we could do really well in. He's proven NOTHING as a manager, **** all. That is a very good place to be cutting your teeth and proving yourself, any stage of European football involves a more tactical aspect and I'll feel robbed of a few big nights out which is what its all about as a fan if we turn down a spot.
Rant over, not happy at all if he thinks we don't need European football! That's what this club is about, I've supported Rodgers but if that's his thinking he doesn't understand the fans or the club.
And if we did get that place, then we bring the players back early so they don't have the same time off as enjoyed by players at Man United, Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham and Everton. And travel all over the place to get into a second rate competition that will later get the all the clubs from the Champions League who failed there but whose players had a long break in the summer....
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

"second rate competition" when we're obviously not good enough to play in the Champions League. Its supposed to be about the fans, if there is a chance of us playing in Europe we should take it.Originally posted by Neil Young View PostSo, just to be clear, you'd rather the club cancelled lucrative pre-season tours on the off chance we'll get a place in Europe through the Fair Play league. This isn't a dig at you but have you been to a final? That 1 day is EVERYTHING to a fan. So would I swap pre season tour for the slim chance of big nights out at Anfield and seeing us lift another trophy? YES every single time.Vive la France

I have no idea mate I'm still yet to read itOriginally posted by Reece View PostDo you think the decision would be solely down to him though?
I just got told and to be honest I got angry from what I was told. If I was to guess then I'd say the club make the decision and Rodgers is trying to put a spin on it BUT that's hopeful thinking because he's been talking for while about it being a distraction.
City and United are not moving from the top 4. If Mourinho goes back to Chelsea they'll invest heavily and they're a certainty, so that's 3/4 CL spots taken up already.
We're not a million miles behind Arsenal and Tottenham but we are behind them! If it is him and he's putting his eggs in 1 basket then he's basically putting a nail in his own coffin if he fails.Vive la France

Ok. But what you're also swapping for the slim chance of a final is a better chance of a higher league position next season, so qualifying for Europe as of right, and ideally in the Champions League.Originally posted by Robbie-9-Fowler View Post"second rate competition" when we're obviously not good enough to play in the Champions League. And don't forget it's likely one CL dropout (Chelsea) will be in the final and there's a good chance they'll be joined there by another one (Benfica). And none of the semi-finalists qualified for the EL via the Fair Play league. Coincidence?
As you say, it's a slim chance and there are some big downsides to consider.
And it genuinely is "second rate", we all know it. It'd be great to win but be honest, it's the League Cup of Europe..

But as I've said, if we don't play in Europe next season and Rodgers doesn't qualify for the CL or come very close he's got no excuses and will probably be out the door.Originally posted by Neil Young View PostOk. City, United and Chelsea will all finish in the top 4 next season. Tottenham could either become weaker or stronger without Bale its tough to say and Arsenal have never finished outside the top 4 under Wenger have they? They will likely spend for the first time in a while if rumour is to be believed.
Right now the Europa League IS our level, if its a second rate competition then at the moment we must be considered a second rate side like it or lump it. This year we couldn't even manage to directly qualify so to say lets not play in it to aim for CL is a bit rich for me, like too many games have been the problem this year

No one is saying it's ideal. But it's a question of judging the balance of interests, long term and short term, fan enjoyment, player development, club income, everything. I think it's a really tricky call.
Europa League as of right, we'd take it seriously. But all the downsides that specifically come with the Fair Play league, I can see the logic totally..

That's a false choice though. We have enough kids, etc that you should be able to divide between a pre-season tour and the early stages of the EL. The club has been banging on about how great the Nexgen experience has been - why not let those players have experience of European games on a slightly higher stage. If they lose, they lose.
Same on the pre-season stuff. Just organise it so that some of your fringe/young players are the ones who come back early.
But to turn down a European place for some exhibition cash is really an appalling reflection on our current priorities. The chance to win a European trophy and to have European nights at Anfield (and later EL games do include some good teams) is not something you pass up because you couldnt be arsed.
