It was the Mum who put in twitter that her 13 year old had breathing difficulties because if them & some tool replied if u can't handle the atmosphere don't go to the match!!!!

I've got a friend on FB who is really into this whole & vocal about this "no pyro no party" stuff & it just smacks of some sort of super supporter competition!!

Given our past experiences we, more than most, should be mindful of the safety of the crowd as well as the perception of our fans. It's frankly embarrassing and painfully hypocritical. At Reading it was dressed up as a justice for the 96/Maggie stance but I strongly suspect that all those effected by Hillsborough and those who have fought so hard for justice would be ashamed of their behaviour. Rightly so, all travelling fans were treated with contempt and suspicion (literally all of us were photographed or videoed by the evidence gathering Police teams). For the first time in years I have genuinely felt scared at away games this season. To really add to the ridiculousness of it all, the explosions distract the players so I really don't get what they hope to achieve.

Just before kick off at Fulham a small fire started and the pitch was scorched (thats what the brown marks just in the penalty area were). There were young kids near me who were genuinely scared. In fairness to the Fulham staff they bravely entered the main throng at half time and pulled a few of them out but I dread to think that this will be applauded, let alone condoned, before the club take some responsibility in sorting it out. Best fans in the world? Not if this lot have their way.

Sorry for the rant. I rarely come in here so go easy on me!

Agree with you both - it's been annoying me (from the comfort of my sofa). Maybe because I've only ever been to one away game (and even then I was in with the home fans ) those doing it will say I'm not allowed an opinion on it.

I too have seen people bragging about it on Twitter but it's **** and reflects really poorly on us IMO. I really don't get what the people doing it think it achieves. Or what enjoyment they get out of doing it. Brainless morons I suspect.

I hope the club is more pro-active in stopping it, I.E. bans to those that they find responsible (which it seems they might be able to do if the police are singling these people out).

Or maybe I'm just taking it all a little too seriously, but I see tweets talking about 13 year olds and breathing difficulties, and I think not.

It's about all this "against modern football" thing isn't it.

I know the bloke who organizes the Hull City 'movement' against it call themselves ultras, he's adamant that they aren't hooligans or anything of that sort just football fans who don't like quiet lifeless crowd. Apparently the idea to to make English football grounds and fans more European.

Just watched it again and we were a bit lucky on the hour mark not to concede a penalty for Lucas' handball in the area. Would have been interesting with the game at 1-1.

It could have been easily 2-2 if it wasn't for Pepe and his 2 very good saves in a row.

They had a banner on Sunday that said something like 'football without fans is nothing'. Well if this carries on... oh the irony.

I'm all for keeping the atmosphere up but not risking anyones safety. Glad you guys seem to agree.

I'm intrigued as to how they always end up in pretty much the same spot amongst their own - surely this would make it easier for them to be identified and dealt with before it happens.

I think they look great and add to the atmosphere, but I have to go along with the others - it's making us look like ****ing mugs and massive hypocrites. Fans' safety is imperative and I think it's important we don't give ammunition to the millions of people who hate us and are looking for a stick to beat us with. Some say who's arsed about what others think, and generally I would agree. But not when it comes to this.

We weren't in the slightest bit lucky not to concede a penalty. We would have been extremely unlucky to have conceded one. The law on this is quite clear. The offence of handball has to be deliberate, ie the player must have intentionally handled the ball. It's obvious that Lucas was not intentionally handling the ball. All the guff commentators spout about arms not being by a player's side means that the award of a penalty is justified is complete hogwash. A player must deliberately handle the ball and it doesn't matter where his arms/hands are or how far away the player is from where the ball is struck.

Given that we should have scored at least six goals I doubt that even a wrongly-awarded penalty would have made any difference

Is that right though? I thought they now have to decide whether or not a player puts his hand in an "unnatural" position to make the ball hit it? Might be wrong but I thought I read that somewhere.

Dont think this is the case anymore

The interpretation of FIFA Law 12 tells referees to consider a few things when determining handball infractions. First, the movement of the hand is considered. If the hand moved to the ball, then the handling of the ball is most likely intentional. But if the ball moved to the hand, it may not be intentional. Second, the distance of the player to the ball is considered. A handball that occurred from a ball played close is unexpected and most likely unintentional. But when a ball is played from far away, a player has time to anticipate the ball and avoid handling it with their arm or hand. Finally, the position of the hand is considered. Touching the ball with an arm that is hanging away from the body is not necessarily an infraction. Once again, the handling of the ball must be intentional.

The handball rule is also "at the referee's discretion"

The law does need clarifying better but taking in view some of the decisions given this season and in view of the above FIFA rule I would have given a penalty against Lucas on Saturday

Heres a viewpoint of David Ellerray regarding the ruling
