Was expecting it to break apart in the first real game of the season (a bit like against Celtic). But we held on to our beliefs and discipline. Really confident going into Villa, despite Benteke probably scoring one against us.
    One tit for another.

I'm kind of glad villa got a win under their belt today, that should do them for a while!

It's happened all too often whereby we've had lots of chances i.e. today, but failed to take them. Throughout the game, our fans across the web had that same fear, that we may regret not capitalising. When Agger conceded the penalty, it was the same reaction '****, we've blown it'.

The crowd and the player's reaction to the save was amazing. The psychological impact that could give us, not only for Mignolet, but in terms of home games when the away side are looking to hit us on the counter cannot be underestimated. This was the first game of the season against a Stoke side who we've drawn against twice at home under Dalglish and Rodgers. The nerves and excitement over it being the opening day must be factored again.

Hopefully, we'll come up strong against Aston Villa next week. I'm delighted.
A lot of that reaction was directed at the Stoke fans, who were a proper, proper bunch of horrible, bitter ****s. Horrible and bitter enough to rival Everton fans for their lack of humour. Proper bunch of cunts.

Today was a classic example of why we need suarez and or a clinical striker in our squad/11

And we probably left them off the hook for not finishing with a comprehensive 5-0 scoreline.
                Are we winning?

Absolutely delighted with the result and attacking display. As many have said the penalty save at the end could have a huge positive affect psychological for the team and the fans.

Still look shaky at set pieces, still not turning domination into goals. Mignolet looked nervous at times but what an absolutely brilliant save in the first half, the penalty of course and some other good moments. A good start for him.

I'm not trying to take anything away from Mignolet but in the end I think we have to put this down as a lucky win, goalkeepers aren't supposed to save penalties, even the best in the world will let in more than they save. But that's OK, we earned the luck and in some ways winning like this is much much better than the 3 or 4 nil result the performance could have easily given us because of the positive psychological impact its going to have for the club.

We played a **** team with the league's best goalkeeper so the result isn't a shock to me.

But compared to last season, we battered them. Really looking forward to meeting Aston Villa now!

Just saw a video of post-match interviews. Apparently Begovic had never before made so many saves in a single game.

I thought we were excellent and deserved to win by about three goals. But the former Man U muppet, Paul Parker, said on Channel News Asia that Liverpool were "unconvincing" and didn't look like they'd made any progress from last season. He gets paid for his razor-sharp insight apparently

Did anyone else have issues watching bt sport on the virgin app for ipad/apple? First half worked fine but 2nd half just stopped every 10 seconds

Good result, brilliant attacking play. Lucas shut up a few critics yesterday. Our attacking play was top notch. Begovic is some keeper. He would have been a top signing for us

he would have been my prefered choice. im sure mignolet is adequate.
removing all the weak links makes us stronger

too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

Adequate doesn't do what he did yesterday...

Excellent win yesterday, we've actually won our opening game of the season

I thought Coutinho was class yet again as was Sturridge and Toure at the back, think him and Agger will be a good pairing as neither needs marshalling and can concentrate on doing their jobs.,

Oh and the Mig looked a bit dodgy early on but came back into the game and the double save from the penalty, that will give him so much confidence.

We were unlucky not to win by 4 yesterday. Begovic was incredible.

The whole team were good IMO. Nobody had a bad game. I thought Lucas was outstanding in the first half. He was back to his best. He tired in the 2nd half though which is to be expected this early.

I was behind the trajectory of the ball for Mingolet's save in the first half and it looked absolutely incredible to me. It was hit perfectly and it looked like he had no right to get to it! He was nervy early on though. We were blessed with Reina's distribution and it will be missed.

The football we are playing these days is making it easier to forget the dark days under Hodgson.

If we pick up Willian then that front 4 will look very strong.

The atmosphere was quiet yesterday. It only kicked off when Mingolet made the penalty save. It was like we had scored. In fact, it was louder than when we scored! Absolute relief that we hadn't ****ed up again after another keeper having an amazing performance against us!
