Mignolet's going to be an alcoholic after all these pints Agger owes him.

Don't agree regarding Gerrard, in the second half he did an excellent job in a defensive capacityOriginally posted by JohnDoe View PostCarried Agger today.
Gerrard was atrocious all game. Lucas was shocking in the 2nd half after a great 1st half. Some of our players just fell asleep.Kurtangled in the McFadden thread 16/01/08

I'm definitely more happy about the saves than concerned about the kicking, but I found his distribution odd as well. He was nervy at times against Stoke but he still tried to play it short as much as possible - today he went long almost every time it was at his feet. I wonder if BR told him that until he gets his feet wet with this possession lark to just forget about it and bomb it when we're away from home if that's what he feels he needs to do.Originally posted by Muddled View PostThree points against a team playing their first home game of the season, coming off the back of two morale-boosting performances? Yes please.
We controlled the tempo in the first half and protected our lead in the second with hopes of catching them on the counter. It wasn’t as pleasing on the eye as our performance against Stoke, but then in 38 league games, we’re gonna have some stinkers. If we can get points whilst under-performing, then power to us. Sure, there are areas of concern, but then we’re not the finished article and neither are we going to rest on our laurels; I’m sure it’s something we are working hard on.
Other than the usual, what was interesting slash concerning was how we tuck our full-backs into the penalty box when defending. It relies so much on a covering wide man and both Coutinho and Henderson are playing in positions that aren’t their best. As such, there are massive gaps that better teams will exploit. Also, I’m sure he will, but Mignolet needs to work on his kicking. It could be nerves and kicking with a heavy foot, but we surrendered possession straight back to Villa on numerous occasions. But then you could argue he’s earned us four points alone with the two saves at the death.
But yeah, bottom line - two clean-sheets and six points from six ... **** yeah.

Perfect start! But I wonder why Rodgers didn't sent the team back out in that 2nd half? **** me, that's one way to stifle Sturridge, Coutinho and Aspas
Absolutely no shape whatsoever but we defended well and still haven't crumbled from a set piece.
Villa pressed us and we had no answer to it, we've seen it before but in those situations when we do get a bit of time we need to keep the ball. Gerrard had a good game but twice around the 65th minute when we were on the back foot he had the ball in space and attempted first time passes and put us right back under pressure.
Joint top?

Sturridge was fantastic I thought, and Mignolet once again made a couple huge saves. People might complain about the manner of the game, but the thing is that we had these games last year every bit as much as we had the 3-0 and 4-1 style thrashings. The difference is that when we played like this last season we usually finished 0-0 or 1-1. Winning ugly for three points - especially away to a good side, as I think Villa are - is perfectly fine by me.
