Didn't see it. But 4 centre backs starting? At home? Really?

For me Sakho is no where near ready to start in the team and playing 4 center backs in defense showed. I think at least one of Kelly or Enrique should have started and that might have helped join up the play more.

And I don't know who was supposed to be playing the 10 role but they didn't!

TBF the players didn't help Rodgers. The passing at the back was scary and I saw terrible passes from Gerrard, Lucas and Henderson all game long.

I'd love to know the pass complete numbers for today. Surely the worse of the season?
The difference between having an excellent sweeper keeper and an average one IMO.

With Reina in goal the players could easily pass the ball back to him if they needed to, even very difficult passes back to the keeper wasn't a problem. Now they can't almost do that.

We will let in fewer goals and score fewer thanks to Mignolet.

so under reina we conceded fewer and scored more in theory that's what your saying after your charachter assassination on Mignolet ...you should apply for the lfc managers job when it next becomes available ....such claptrap you spout

He's referring to quick attacks set up by the goalkeeper resulting in goals, but praising the current keeper for being better at keeping them out. As an attacking force, Reina was streets ahead of Mignolet.

It was a poor result, there's no two ways about that.

But i must say that Southampton were excellent today. All of they're front players worked tirelessly in denying our midfield any time on the ball. Iv got a feeling that they will be a really good away team this season - and upset a few ow the big boys.

At least we're still in the mix for the top 4, and have our best player coming back .

To be fair Kelly and Wisdom are centre backs too

That was very poor. We've ridden our luck so far this season, we need to start playing better football. The team selection was odd and we did lack width. Southampton worked harder and deserved the 3 points.

and the back four always had the option to pass the ball back to Reina. They don't have the same easy option now. That means one less option to pass the ball to in a tight situation.

Reina is probably the best sweeper keeper in the world, we have replaced him with someone that more or less can't play that way.

Of course that will affect our play a lot until the players learned how to play with a different keeper.

What will you say if when Suarez returns we start banging goals in ?

Yes but Kelly has a lot of games under his belt as left back and is good cover for Johnson when he's not injured.

He's never played center for the first team as far as I remember so its a bit like saying Carra was a striker haha.

Wisdom I can definitely see as a center back one day but Kelly is maybe our Gary Neville. Haha.

I'm really not sure I agree that was the problem today. Almost the opposite. Southampton was very good at closing down fast but often the lack if movement by the back 4 to get away from their 'marker' gave Mignolet few options except to boot the ball up field.

The defenders kept getting caught with the ball and then when they passed back to Mignolet all 4 had been closed down and marked and the didn't move about to give any help to the goalie.

We lost in a similar manner to Southampton last season with Reina in goal, the main difference being we conceded 3 in that game. Pochettinho has seemingly worked out that we can't handle constant pressing especially our midfield.
We'll start picking up points again once Suarez, Agger, Johnson and others return.

Problem is Brendan played into Southampton's hands so submissively its unreal. By starting non-ball playing FBs we effectively said make us kick it long to a diminutive Iago, which we did and lost all second balls.

I'm not fussed about the loss, we've only dropped 1 point in this game. We were never, ever going to get 3. I said earlier we should have started with Sterling at RB and expected Enrique at LB. Ball retention would have been better, and they would not have pressed so high up with Sterling's pace.

Ah well, its over. Next game with Luis please.
                              One tit for another.

I'm not sure Kelly is fit but if he is I hope he starts playing games in Johnson's absence. As for Enrique,he was ****ing woeful when he came on so no great loss from the start.

A lot made of 4 centre backs but the options were limited and we were ****e all over the park. You'd think with 4 CB's on the park we'd be able to defend the corner we conceded from properly.

We weren't good enough today but the goal was down to player mistakes and we could have had a pen. Another day, even playing as **** as we did, we get a draw or nick the win.

We need to improve but we can improve with the players we have so it's not all doom and gloom.
