Though I didn't agree with 4 CBs at the back, the silver lining is Toure and Sakho both got match practice under their belts. As did a returning from injury Agger.
    One tit for another.

Looking back at the game the movement from the players when building from the back was very poor today, so few options for the keeper and the back four when looking to start moving forwards today esp. With the closing down Southampton employed

That is a massive misconception. I've lost count the number of times I've had to write this: Kelly played Centre back for Liverpool when he was Under 16! He always played full back for the Under 18's and Reserves. In fact he was out for around 2 years and I don't think he hardly played for the under 18's. The only time he has probably played at Centre back for the reserves/U21's was a couple of weeks ago against United Reserves,

Well IMO he never has been good enough but I'd rather have had him in the team over Toure at right back.

Not surprised by today's result, disappointed yes but I kind of expected it. I hoped we would show some new found mental strength and display our quality but unfortunately the old traits are still there in abundance.

Maybe we have been kidding ourselves so far this season.....now is the real acid test, we have Luis back and it is perfect timing really.

Still a good start to the season though.

Ten points from 5 difficult games. It's not a bad return. Swansea & Villa away are never gimmes, Stoke has been difficult in the past & MUFC games can go either way. Soton are a team LFC will struggle against due to the way they play.

If we were starting to dream of a title I'd say this brings us down to earth with a bang. If we are thinking 4th, I'd say that despite the possibility of Arsenal & Spurs going above us already, that challenge is still very much on based on what I've seen.

MUFC away in the cup will be nice if we win, but 6 points out of 6 from our next two will be the real medicine.

How do we approach the cup game then?

Do we rest players for the league because a, we are carrying a lot of injuries and we can't afford anymore and b, our managing director has told us cups don't matter.Or do we have to go balls out for the win because it's a trophy, it's the mancs and it's an early guarantee of European football next season if you win it?

Suarez returning should alleviate our creative outlet loss from Coutinho's absence, ditto for Kelly and Cissohko in the fullback positions.

Centre midfield, on the other hand, is a real issue. The imbalance of the Gerrard-Lucas-Henderson trio is the core of team's instability.
