If Lucas' defensive impact was as big as people make it seem, why is he not able to cover for Gerrard's weakness in that area? If we have to play another DM next to Lucas as well as another midfielder with an engine like Henderson who can do some running for him, just so that our midfield won't look like swiss cheese, what's the point of having him in the team? Why is it not better to actually buy a defensive midfielder who can do what Lucas does but also be dominant?

Because our midfield hasn't been like Swiss cheese, I think that is as much a myth as Arsenal's defence being crap.

You are basically having at Lucas for not playing his own game and Gerrard too, sorry but that is silly. Not worth taking this any further.

I think this maybe a little hyperbolic. We have been a bit slow and little ponderous, we have certainly not been horribly exposed.

Maybe.We've lost goals on a few occasions as opposition players have strolled past the pair of them. Its not ideal and one or both need shifting.

He looks outstanding every time I see Southampton. Strong, reads the game well, loves a block/tackle, can pass it. Got to be worth a look. He'd add something to our midfield I think.

Lucas and Henderson are like Marmite There are some (on here) who rate Lucas but will never rate Henderson, and some who rate Henderson and will never rate Lucas. Truth is that they are both good players with different strengths and weaknesses.

No need to over react, we're over achieving ahead of better teams. once things level out, our realistic goal is 4th. Arsenal were quicker in the pass and more insightful. We were predictable and unfortunately cout was rusty otherwise we could've realistically got back into the game

I agree but I don't think either are great, Lucas seems to get caught out of position a lot and has looked extremely sluggish since his return. I won't write him off because he was a beast before he got injured but against the better sides he's still way off the pace.

I know I'm stating the obvious - if we still had Alonso and Mascherano, neither Henderson or Lucas would be first team regulars.

We do need to strengthen our midfield
