It was mistimed, that's it. A heavy price to pay for anticipating a challenge and being a bit **** at timing your brush off. He's also probably been told to be more aggressive and that's how it manifested itself. Ridiculous sending off, ref should have had a word, yellow card at worst and told him to calm down. He wasn't long on the pitch ffs.

Not even close to a red card IMO.
Couldn't have worded that better myself. the ref has to believe there's intent to hurt the guy & a fingernail slap to the snozzer is hardly gonna hurt anyone. I hate that side of football. And what about that ****** in Bastle that wanted us yellow carded every time he hit the deck.

It was a mistake from Lazar, maybe a yellow card. But no way I can slice it, is it a straight red.
Dangerous play. How was it not?

Lots of things happen on a football pitch that are dangerous though, intent is the issue for me, and i don't think he 'intended' to hurt the player.

And the belief that this is true is the reason why you are wrong.

Wasnt a clenched fist, and we see plenty of raised hands in challanges. I wouldnt call that dangerous at all.

How was it any of these?

A player, substitute or substituted player is sent off if he commits any of the following seven offences:

              serious foul play
              violent conduct
spitting at an opponent or any other person
denying the opposing team a goal or an obvious goalscoring opportunity by deliberately handling the ball (this does not apply to a goalkeeper within his own penalty area)
denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity to an opponent moving towards the player's goal by an offence punishable by a free kick or a penalty kick
using offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or gestures
receiving a second caution in the same match
              *Except Michael, who died.

A mistimed tackle can also give a red. That you have good intent but poor timing still gives red in football.

Which is shy if there was intent it should have been a red.

Here's the issue. Lazar looks back. When a player dribbles, he looks around to see where defenders are and throws arms out to keep them at bay. What goes wrong, is Safari slows down as he knows he can't win the ball. So as Lazar throws his arm out, it looks like a flailing arm. And because he looked back, the ref thinks he's showing intent.

Now an experienced ref should've known that maybe this wasn't the case. The fact is he saw Lazar look back, thrown his arm back, saw contact, then saw a player holding his face, and gave the red. Ticks all boxes, but football shouldn't always be so black & white. You have to have common sense, because even by the letter of the law, that wasn't a red.

The ref obviously believes there's intent to hurt the guy & I believe it's just a mistimed challenge. One is a red & the other a yellow.

It was a red for me

A soft red, and yes the defender made the most of it but still a red

Common sense isn't as common as you'd think.

Pure filth. Its the sort of challenge that makes me shudder. He has a responsibility as a professional footballer. There were kids watching FFS. Watch as this act of barbarism is repeated on pitches and parks all over the country.

Girly, fingers out swipes towards opponents lower cheek area, with out looking, are the new over the top two footed lunge

But with that, it's only a red if there is serious contact. There was neither intent or serious contact last night. Nor was his outstretched finger likely to cause any serious harm. Unless Lazar is a ninja garden mother****ing warrior who can slay entire armies with his finger alone. Could be something the ref is privy to whilst I am not.
