The thing is have we learnt from last year? I don't think so from last night's result. Yes it was a meaningless preseason match of no importance.

However the lack of concentration late on is the same as last season.

and poor old Lambert looked just that..old..

    Worried....

We'll probably go down unless Sturridge plays 38 games.

Far too much importance is being put on this game, why do we play pre season games ? Fitness and stamina for the most part, the fact it was the Mancs have distorted the result, we're still looking to build on the squad and that won't be our starting 11.

Perhaps the lessons to be learnt are from the fans than knee jerk before the season starts ?

If only! I still remember the absolute chaos on here last year when we lost to Celtic reserves right before the season started. "We are ****" "6th at best", "we dont have enough goals". It's mental how much stock gets put in to these games, games where we've not even come close to playing a full team! But at least if we're ****ed now so are Arsenal. Arsenal 0-1 AS Monaco, New York Red Bulls 1-0 Arsenal, Chelsea. Werder Bremen 3-0 Chelsea, FC Wolfsberger AC 1-1 Chelsea FC and Man City. Manchester City 2-2 Olympiakos. Dundee FC 2-0 Manchester City. Man Utd have obviously already won the league but we should have a shout at the top 4.

Of course we've got a few issues to hopefully sort but so has everyone else.

I'm not knee jerking I'm making a point about concentration which was lacking regardless of the nature of the fixture it was prevalent last season and reoccured yesterday.

Are we now not able to comment without castigation?

There were multiple changes and maybe some of the players who were starting played their way out of the side, who knows but it's pre season in a meaningless fixture if it was during the season I'd say you have a point at present however i don't agree.

everyone of the scum players are playing for there future, LVG has allready said as soon as he comes back he will be showing some the door, so dont think its surprise they were still putting in maximum effort throughout the game

I would hope that this pre-season has only confirmed rodgers thoughts on some players, And there is no way we will not get another big money forward Rodgers isn;t stupid and you dont go into the season replacing Lambert for Suarez, It just cannot end well.

Without another striker of decent level, 5th. Otherwise 4th. We're defo on an upward curve, but I think Suarez was so good he gave a false impression of exactly how far we are along that path.
                  3rd place. Worst champions ever.

It all depends who we'll bring in to support Sturridge and Lambert.

In my view we need 2 new strikers to make 4 in all (Borini is not good enough and needs to go). If we get that then I predict 3rd.

If we go passed the transfer window with what we have then probably 5th.

This thread probably should have been started on September 1st

With 4 good strikers my prediction is:

                    1. Chelsea
                    2. Manchester City
                    3. Liverpool
                    4. Manchester United
                    5. Arsenal
                    6. Tottenham Hotspur
                    7. Everton

As the squad stands (1 top four quality striker) at our disposal.

                      5th

I predict that this time next year this thread will be renamed 'Where will we finish in the defence of our title'.

Really not impressed with whats happened this summer to be honest, the money we've spent could've transformed the starting 11, but instead we seem to have purchased prospects (Lallana aside, I think he'll do well), and spent just £4m on Lambert filling the hole left by Suarez (I know he's not a Suarez replacement as such, but one striker out and one in). Its a huge risk this by Rogers, absolutely massive and if it backfires this season there will be some huge questions to be asked. This is live and die by the sword territory here with the expenditure likely to hit or even exceed £100m by the time the season starts.

Man Utd will be back in the top 4, their pre season couldn't have gone better for them. I don't take pre season games to mean anything at all individually, but they've beaten some decent sides this summer and that will do wonders for their confidence, LVG is a top manager and the break from the CL will do them wonders. Arsenal will finish ahead of us into 4th I think.
                            Ok right.

So we now have Lovren, Lallana and probably Monero. All of which will improve our first 11. So who out of the other 8 starters do you want to change? Henderson, Sterling, Sakho, Sturridge, Coutinho?

Markovic looks like he might take a season, or he might hit the ground running. Same with Emre Can.

I really only see Lambert as a hit/miss signing at the moment. It all depends on how he does. But come on, he was a £4m signing. Most clubs will throw that at a player just to sign for them nowadays. Its nothing in modern football.
                            *Except Michael, who died.

Same every year. Last year we were up to 33/1 for the league and many pundits said we'd struggle to get in the top six.

From all the pre-season bollocks that's that's been spouted so far it's like last season never happened. Man U being third favourites is totally laughable. They're still looking over Everton's shoulder. I'll be surprised if they break the top six.

Our club and players are always underrated. For the last two seasons fatboy Rooney has been a shorter price than Luis Suarez to be top scorer, in defiance of all logic. Suarez was 25/1 last season. Sturridge isn't favourite to be top scorer this year despite his incredible goals-to-games ratio since he joined us.

I got used to pundits dismissing us decades ago. I've made quite a few quid in backing us despite what know-nothing pundits think.
