Southampton will do ok this season.
You're missing the point completely. The way our fullbacks play will always be risky. Would you want them to play deeper and offer next to nothing going forward? Manquillo and Moreno are both attacking fullbacks, so that won't change.

We just need to retain the ball a bit better and keep our patience, which we couldn't do today.
    Are we winning?

If we win playing **** each week I'd be happy. Rather we played well like. Most sides have looked rather rusty this week though.

Once we get our fullbacks sorted out we will be much improved defensively. Midfield was dominated today.

Lovren is fantastic. Rock solid and spot on every single time. He's exactly the commanding CB we have been craving.

Rodgers with spot on subs. Coutinho wasn't in the game and Lucas shouldn't be in the team.
          3 points.
          Agreed

We got zero points in the corresponding fixture last season, so there's an instant improvement.

Johnson flittered in between 'arsed' and 'not-arsed' a bit too regular, but Man Kilo is too giddy for first team football at the moment, so perhaps it is up to Flanagan to stake a claim.

Lambert's legs must have felt like lead weights, so fair play to him and a major high-five for Sterling today.

That chance where he had to deal with two of their players in our six yard box from a ball that came back in from a poor clearance out by Gerrard?

I think part of the problem is the undroppable stevie g....I just don't think he is a top class holding midfielder.....we need a mascherano type player in their protecting the back 4. I think Gerrard should be slightly further forward and play less games. Against 75% of the teams we will fine but against top teams with super movement we will be ****ed....

They did a great job on him - swarm him when the ball comes in, and if he gets free then kick him. The ref let them get away with it, and so he wasn't able to control the game as we'd like.

Hopefully once Lallana and Markovic are in the squad targeting Coutinho will just mean more space for those two and Sterling. Today they just had to keep Coutinho quiet and force Sterling wide.

A special mention for Henderson also, he ran his ****ing guts out and produced a moment of sheer class! Shame he wasn't backed up by our deeper CM's in that respect because Southampton were able to pass him out the game when he was pressing without support.

Absolutely and that's the centre-mid problem.

Not you're missing the point we had an inexperienced kid playing RB and our RB playing LB. I said nothing about them attacking

One game in & already you're playing the same tune as last season

Thought he had a good game today personally

Lucas started well, winning a few balls in good positions, but then got lost in our mediocrity as the game went on. I think Can will be the one who will be a regular there, but Rodgers maybe wanted him to watch from the sidelines first, before throwing him in. Allen did well when he came on.
