Yup. In the 89th minute he was still buzzing around like a rampant rabbit. His energy and stamina are tremendous.

Thats one of the main reasons I like him paired with Allen because he backs up his efforts, at times he was isolated in what he was doing and it becomes far less effective.

Lucas beside doesn't help but I thought he did well first half, trailed off badly second half. I think Allen will start against City before coming off for Can. My issue with Gerrard today was where he played, at times he looked a little lost in terms of his duties. A couple of times I can remember seeing him looking unsure if to press or drop and in the end he'd been bypassed, that slight indecision in this league will get punished. He's been given a new role tailored to his age pretty much but today for some reason it was abandoned and his pairing with Lucas, much like last season just looked too slow and clumsy.

I think how impressive we looked against Dortmund was a bit of a false promise, so slick and deadly with plenty of pace. Today we didn't see any signs of that performance but as United showed, pre season results count for **** all.

Great to win although we were pretty poor in the main. Thought Allen showed way more than Lucas and Gerrard while he was on the pitch to start the next game. The new guys played their part and Mignolet for the second season in a row saves the 3points right at the end. Tremendous save.

This is where the signing of Lallana is an astute one. We can either move Cou deeper, bringing Lallana to play his role, or vice versa. Will give either player the space to pass and move.
