How does Rossiter captain his school team if he's been at the academy since he was 6 years old?

Having brought success on the field to Archbishop Beck – including captaining the school to victory in the 59th Liverpool ECHO Schoolboys Cup final back in 2011 – Mr Dickinson has been thrilled by Rossiter’s progress

In my opinion it's way too early to review this summers transfers. Let's see how they've adapted after christmas. Lallana and the fullbacks looks good already. Slightly worried about Balotelli and Lovren. Hopefully will get a world class goalie in by january. Maybe we'll have to sell players first to no breach the FFP-rules....

Why would being a Liverpool player stop him from playing for his school?
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I think the signing of Balotelli was a very good calculated risk - he could potentially be very good and if it didn't work out then we could probably get 70% of the transfer fee back - plus he took a pay cut to join us which is a great statement of intent and sporting ambition from Balotelli.

It is the additions of Lambert, Lallana for £25m, Lovren for £20m, Markovic for £20m that i think were all poor choices.

          Milner for £8m
          Caulkner for £8m
          Rodwell for £10m
          Richards for £5m

combined total = £31m. Or very slightly more than Lallana and Lambert combined.... add someone like Reus, Pedro or Draxler for £40m and yes i think that is a better way to spend the Suarez money..... we would have ended up with a better first 11 than we have now, a strong squad and a potentially world class signing rather than a guy in Lallana who has reached his ceiling.
There is a good reason why you are not involved with managing a football club.........

Cos usually when a kid signs terms with a club they are precluded from playing for their school team, Sunday team, playing with their mates etc, for obvious reasons.

Oh, didn't know that. I assumed they all played for their schools as you often see pictures and hear teachers talking about how good they were.

The way some people feel able to summarily judge someone like Markovic after a couple of games is not only idiotic but frankly a bit ****ty. He certainly looks like he has a lot to learn and will take time to adapt, like almost every young and inexperienced player ever, but to declare him, and anyone else really, a waste of money after a handful of games? Crazy.

Honestly I find it a bit disappointing how quickly some people have lost faith after a sticky start to the season, this is a long term project and while last season was great fun we did overachieve a little for the stage we were at. The big picture is bright this season and a few teething problems shouldn't distract from that too much.

We really are struggling to break teams down and get in behind. I feel he will need to adapt his style slightly to accommodate Balotelli because as much as I want him to be constantly on the move, make runs in behind the defence, run the channels, it just isn't his game and it's so obvious to see. I saw it again last night he kept coming short but what peed me off was we didn't have enough players running beyond when he did this. Balotelli does some really good things but I personally don't think we are doing enough to play to his strengths. I was wrong to expect him to come here and play to our style just like that, it's got to work both ways.
Good post marcus, sold me. I was afraid of this with Balotelli from the start but in balance and fairness to him individually, part of that concern is around how he fits in our existing style; if we are to make the most of him we will also have to adapt too.

I think we'll sign another forward in Jan

Could we play Balotelli alone upfront against the bitters with Lallana and Sterling on the sides? The midfield would consist of Coutinho/Allen, Henderson and Gerrard. Sterling and Lallana would need to make runs into the box with Balo coming short.
                  * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

                    from that too much.

Yep, from my understanding if you are in a professional academy then that's your team. And the professional academies play each other. They aren't allowed to play against amateur teams from the same country.

I was speaking with a tournament organizer when I was trying to bring a team over from Mexico this summer and part of the deal was that they would include friendly games against academy teams.

He said it was easy to do because the academies love the chance to play against other teams because they don't get many opportunities. And especially teams from Latin America because so few make it over to England.

But maybe that's why he was playing for his school team. Maybe Liverpool do it differently, especially at the younger ages. That's why I was asking if anyone knew.
