Wasn't a bad performance from most, but the transition in our play was mostly appalling. We took far to long to pick a pass and spent to much time passing sideways. We allowed Blackburn to defend with ease for most the game and rarely got in behind them. I guess we could blame the pitch if we are generous, but we've played the same way too often this season for me to not be scathing on this occasion.
Yes we are through, but we should've cruised in to the semi. I'm not sure that formation worked for us. And I'm still not sure that Couts and Sterling are effective as wide men. They are at their most dangerous when in the middle and able to turn either side. Studge also well below par, tbh I've given up on him being any good until next season and then he needs to deliver.Forwards.......

Currently our best player, form wise. Consistently very good. I enjoyed him smashing into Lucas. He would never have done that at the start of the season. Great save from that header. Saved us a few quid in the summer.Originally posted by Icon View PostNo mention of Mignolet who was v good tonight and kept us in it...Always borrow money from a pessimist. He won’t expect it back. Sometimes you have to doff your cap to the opposition - you can't win every game comfortably. We were away from home against a well organised side that afforded us very little space. Bar the first five or ten minutes of the second half and the final scramble at the end, we controlled the game. Away from home. In a Quarter Final of the FA Cup.
We've spent the last five months with a back three; To swap to a back four and then for Sakho to suffer an injury, you have to say we did well. It certainly wasn't pleasing on the eye. Sterling and Coutinho offered us width, but we missed them centrally. Allen was steady, but we need more. Sturridge looks off the pace - understandably - and needs to stop trying to force it.
If there is any justice in the world, we should beat Aston Villa to stop Sherwood and his gilet getting anywhere near an FA Cup final.

he played well alright.....for me we still need a decent back up but probably not a new #1.
I like that we went back to a flat back 4. I thought the game wasn't memorable but i thought that we defended corners and crosses into the box generally well enough.
What is also easy to forget is that this is a relatively young team. It is easy to forget how young Sterling, Coutinho, Henderson, Sakho, Moreno and Mignolet all are...... Blackburn went out to kick the **** out of us last night, our players got zero protection from the referee and we stood up to them.
Also, considering that we were missing Skrtel, Emre Can and Gerrard, Brendan changed the tactics / formation employed for the last 4 months or so, and that is was on the back of a hiding away at Arsenal, then all-in-all it was a good performance and a good result.
The sign of a good team is winning when you don't play your best football. If we can implement that feature to our teams mentality, then the future is good....

Great win, but it is a team that isn't functioning right at the moment. FA Cup games are always tricky to be fair but we are still way off what we were. Players look burned out, hopefully we can get some kind of resurgence.Last edited by danperkins; 09-04-15, 08:12 AM.

Aye he was good last night but **** against arsenal - should have saved Ozils free kick (everyone watching knew where the ball was heading towards) & less said about the Sanchez attempt that was straight down his throat the betterOriginally posted by Icon View PostNo mention of Mignolet who was v good tonight and kept us in it...
No way good enough for our #1What do you mean it could've been anyone? Name me one person who's got a grudge against penguins

Going into next season I'd be happy with him as #1 but with a decent challenger pushing him hard.Originally posted by BobTheCharmer View PostCurrently our best player, form wise. I thought we were comfortable.
Switching formation after months playing a different one is never easy straight off, Mingolet was good again, Lovern the best he's played for us (not saying much I know) and Coutinho and Sterling lively.
Biggest problem is still Sturridge being miles off his best. The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

The performance was ok, but I never really felt either team was going to win it looked a comfortable 0-0 for a long time. The goal was a good move and the type of thing that we were doing all the time last season, but those moments have been few and far between this year sadly.
We got through which is the main thing and the change of system seemed to work but given that 2 of our 3 regular CBs were out (then Sakho got injured) I guess we did well to adapt. I have no idea what system we will adopt for the remaining games. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Pretty dull game to watch but we did dominate possession and had most of the chances (not that there we many).
I liked the reaction of their manager after their keeper nearly equalised in the last minute of injury time. Once he'd got over the disappointment of it not going in he had a little wry chuckle to himself about it.
Made me smile
The Mig especially seemed delighted at the final whistle. Grinning from ear to ear. Hope we see a similar smile after we've played Villa at Wembley
