Tbh, whatever he wanted would've been worth it with our list of alternatives. Sometimes you have to bite the bullet and accept we'd earn more money with making the top 4, knockouts etc than saving a few million on a deal.Originally posted by Chazza View PostThe Remy deal fell over due to Willie McKay being greedy.Forwards.......

I disagree. We are where we are because we lacked a good mobile striker. That's what Remy is.Originally posted by RichC View PostThere is no way of knowing with Remy we'd have been guaranteed a top 4 finish.
Of course, it's not missing out on Remy that annoyed me, it's being left with little alternatives. Big money spent on a number of players, when what we needed to do was find an able replacement for Suarez. We'd never sign someone as good, but as good as we could get and then fill the squad out when the main job is done.Forwards.......

OK I'll bite. Who the **** is Courtney Barnett? So far I've been blissfully ignorant of his existenceOriginally posted by captainfog View PostI only watched the first half because I had a ticket to see Courtney Barnett. Thought the first half was terrible. Blackburn offered **** all and were just trying to defend with 10 men while we huffed and puffed but didn't look threatening at all.
Courtney Barnett plays guitar better than Liverpool play football. I didn't regret my choice.

i got slated on here for saying that Lallana was a waste of money..... For me he was worth paying around 8m for as a squaddie but no ****in way should he have been our main summer signing.... not a hope.Originally posted by BigChief View PostIts painful hindsight. I thought Lovren but specially Lallana were worth paying the extra for. Both with PL experience and Lallana able to do a Coutinho type role. But it never transpired and so the 50m looks like a lost gamble.
How can we avoid this again this summer? Is it really just luck?
For me, although he is relatively veratile, we have better players in every position that he plays. He is also too slow on the ball - he likes to take two or three touches when one will do - which isn't really useful when we are counter attacking. I also don't think he is a big-game player....
Coutinho is a far better player.....and 5 years younger going to only get better.
I know last summer we were all thinking that "£25m doesnt get you a lot these days" - especially when we were being offered 14m for Borini.
I know that wages are a big part of the deal but for me, 25m should be getting us a lot more. It's something similar to the fee that Chelsea paid for Fabregas. Now i know that Fabregas wouldnt have come to Liverpool but in reality the Lallana fee should have been benchmarked against the fabregas deal. £25M should have got us a lot better player than Lallana.

Lallana is a divisive one - I have had real life conversations with people who think he's the complete package, a proper classy top end La Liga style player who is still finding his feet, but they go nuts every time he has a decent game. I think he was £12m overpriced, is too ponderous, indecisive, far too willing to pass responsibility on to someone else and doesn't have enough pace to be truly effective. He is still finding his feet though. I wish we'd left Southampton alone and bought the players they replaced our ones with for a fraction of the price. (Pelle, Alderweireld and Tadic). I don't think they would have been any worse.

Lallana has bags of ability & a good temperament, but he hasn't clicked with the players we have here. When you're not on the same wavelength, things just don't work.Originally posted by Daniel 7 View PostLallana is a divisive one - I have had real life conversations with people who think he's the complete package, a proper classy top end La Liga style player who is still finding his feet, but they go nuts every time he has a decent game. I agree with you on Remy but for me Lallana is a player for an everton, aston villa or newcastle. Good....and very good on his day. But not great. And certainly not the player that could make a difference to our team. For me, he is a useful squad player to have - back up for coutinho and can also do a job out wide. But we aren't chelsea or city - we cant pay £25m for a squad player.Originally posted by DannyMan2006 View PostLallana has bags of ability & a good temperament, but he hasn't clicked with the players we have here.
