Jose Mourinho has taken the unusual step of allowing his Chelsea players up to four days off this week, prompting raised eyebrows at Manchester United over the new Premier League champions’ preparations for Liverpool on Sunday.
After clinching the title with their 1-0 win against Crystal Palace last Sunday, Mourinho gave his players Monday and Tuesday as what would be their expected days off but also rewarded them with the option of taking off both Wednesday and Thursday.
Friday will be the first day that the squad has been required to report for training all week, leaving Mourinho only two definite full days to prepare with his players for the visit on Sunday of Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool.
Eden Hazard certainly appears to have been among those to take up the chance for some added relaxation and posted a photograph on his Instagram account on Wednesday of him looking out over a swimming pool and beach.
Sunday's fixture is hugely important in what now looks like a straight battle between Liverpool and Manchester United for the fourth and final Champions League place. Qualifying for the Champions League is typically worth around £30 million and will also be crucial in attracting potential signings over the next year.
Liverpool have closed the gap to Manchester United to only four points ahead of the final three matches of the season following a sequence of three straight defeats for Louis van Gaal’s team. United also still face a potentially hazardous run-in with away matches looming against Crystal Palace on Saturday and then Hull City on the final day of the season either side of hosting Arsenal.That rug really tied the room together.

Mourinho clearly hates united and van gaal. He also knows that if they qualify for the champions league they will be challenging for the title next year and every year thereafter. By fielding a weakened team against us he is sticking it to United and doing his pal Brendan a favour.
Even if we qualify for the champions league which we wont, we are no threat to Chelsea next season or the season after that.
Can we beat a weak Chelsea team.

Mourinho has a very proud record at home for each team he's managed... there's no way they roll over or field a ****e team..... they don't have a weak team regardless of who they put out.
Asking United to drop 5 points in their last 3 games whilst we are winning, is very wishful thinking. But I suppose until it's mathematically impossible there's always a chance.

Jose certainly heaped the praise onto Gerrard in his presser yesterday.
All his Gerrard related comments from the presser;
"It is my time to honour a champion in Steven Gerrard. Opponents like him, make me the manager I am.I learn through my players and through my best opponents and the problems they give me, the way they make me think and analyse them..Steven Gerrard is for sure one of my favourite enemies. An enemy with all the good feeling I can express. For sure in England, he is my dear enemy. The one who made me a better manager
To stop him or try to stop him has been very difficult. I won, lost and drew against him, him as a holding player, a number 8, a number 10, coming from the wing in a three-man defence and I am very sad it is the last time I will play against him.I need people like him to make me a better coach. I am very sad he is leaving, the same as Frank Lampard. He is a Chelsea legend. It's a different situation.I tried to bring him to Chelsea, Inter and Real Madrid and he was always the enemy. I hope Stamford Bridge has the same feeling I have. We need people like him. He can't play against Liverpool."He had an amazing career, an amazing feeling that he refused to play for other big clubs and play in other big leagues. Who knows, maybe I will play against Steven Gerrard as Liverpool manager some day."I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.
