I wonder how much stock a top player puts into, about who is managing the club.. before they sign? Obviously wages and champs league are a massive thing, but do I wonder would some players think Brendan Rodgers...nahhh you're alright.

Curious to see polls about Rodgers on other LFC forums and compare them to our own.

Or more likely....you're not in the CL, they are and they want me too, so unless you're gonna offer me a hell of a lot more than them , you've got no chance!

I'm starting to believe that Brendan could be up for the chop, FSG will act if they feel an irreversible rot has set in.

Its almost a complete rebuild, I just feel sticking with Rodgers and seeing how next season goes is a big leap of faith and if it does go to **** we will be rebuilding once again next summer

I'm not sure the club can afford 2 consecutive summers of complete rebuilds

Thats why my preference is to rip it all up this summer and start from scratch
Great post tbh. Have to agree with that.

Also, lest we forget...... It's an international tournament next summer, so changing then would be tough for a new manager to bed in, with players missing large chunks of pre season etc.

I think there are too many question marks after three years and despite the cost to get rid, I think it'd be cheaper to get rid now than gamble and waste money on players for his system this summer
            Forwards.......

I think the manager and his reputation is one among the many factors along with wages, location, CL qualification etc. I dont think we would have been able to get Alonso, Reina, Torres without Rafa's reputation.

Back then, we had multiple posts about how we were shaping up over the next decade, with a blistering style of football, steamrolling over sides, and with CL football, able to compete at the top table for players, current players growing into their roles, the cream of the young players etc etc

Now we're a load of ****e needing to be gutted.

Problem was that this summer Rodgers placed his faith in players for positions that weren't essential. Did we need a LCB when we had Sakho? Did we need Lallana & Markovic? Did we need Manquillo when we had Wisdom?

What we did need was a top striker to replace Suarez, but clearly Rodgers decided he wanted to go 433 instead of the successful 41212 and went with targeting wingers and a back up striker instead of a world class striker to go with a formation he'd been so successful with.

He made incorrect decisions with regards his playing squad.

Agreed. If the money and club is the right fit, you may still need that extra factor of a top manager to get quality players over the line. Especially if you can't blow rivals out the water wage wise.

Though Manquillo doesn't really need to be mentioned, Lovren (when we have Sakho) and both Lallana and Markovic, as opposed to one or the other, is a criminal waste of resources.
Add Balotelli to that too, and what makes it worse is the year we had to prepare for it. Suarez was always, always going to go to Barca at some stage in the very near future. We can't have ever envisaged being so close to winning the title, so we MUST have thought about what we'd do with a bucketload of cash in our sky rocket

That said, we can't be certain that we didn't approach a stack of absolute top level strikers and get rebuffed; but you'd think there'd be whispers if so
I saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"
There's no water round here stupid, should have stayed where it was wet

In fairness I did hear some whispers we had looked at big name strikers. But it was all too late on in the market to make a difference and by that time we were fast running out of cash.

I actually do think the club expected Suarez to stay, which tbh shows how stupid the club is tbh, because Barca hardly decided he was worth buying after the bite incident, they'd have known months before that.

But £70m on Markovic, Lallana & Balotelli was a massive error when we needed a gifted attacker first and foremost. There are plenty of clubs around who'd sell good strikers for much less than £70m.

That's the thing. I don't doubt we at least made enquiries concerning top bracket strikers, but I think we would have heard more if we'd actually put bids in or held talks etc

And there is no way that Balotelli was the best available striker. Fair enough it was a panic buy as was so late in the window, but WHY was it so late in the window? When our entire gameplan last season centered around our striker, and that striker left, it is inconceivable that other positions be given more priority than that one, even considering how paper thin our squad was

                          Such a shame

read last night that 75 of our goals last season came from Suarez, Sturridge, Gerrard and Sterling.

                            That's very depressing

Its not if its was suppose to be like that which I suspect it was .. the team was set up to feed Suarez, Gerrard was on set pieces and Dan and Raheem were the two players closedt to Suarez up front when he pulled defenders out of position ... makes total sense

makes sense - agreed. But going into next season (potentially) none of those players will be available (with potentially only Sturridge still with the club).
