The handball was nothing, and hendo bailed him out of a red.

Second time since he's come back that he's had to haul an attacker down though, although IIRC he was RB when he had to do it the first time. Hopefully he'll find his feet soon.

One of the things that was an early problem when he played centrehalf was him not being the right side of attackers

Last season (prior to the injury) he cut that out of his game a lot but its been there again the last few games

Not sure now much vvd is still suffering from the ****s but he deferred to gomez to carry the ball out most of the time, and he was excellent in defence tonight. Motm.

Tremendous game, just like the early form of last season before the injury. Great distribution and acceleration out of defence with the ball. Couldn't come at a better time if this form carries on in the League.

His passing last night was the most progressive I've ever seen from him. Made a big difference to the dynamics of the team.

Thought he was a clear man of the match for us myself, pace and positioning was spot on. One big thing, he was breaking the lines, like what Agger used to do and pushing forward to near the half way line, taking pressure off us and push Flamengo back but he wasn't taking too much out of it either.. was brilliant to see.

His pace is just such a huge asset and can get him and us out of trouble, having 2 quick CBs playing beside each other is a huge bonus. He has struggled a bit since coming back which is understandable, especially his passing and positioning but they were spot on yesterday. Joe and Virgil looked great together before his injury so hopefully he can get back and keep up to that standard. Weird thing is Matip looks great beside VVD too and even Dejan's game has improved.
